Anyone with Settled Status Travelled Recently

I’m possibly being irrationally worried, but in the last few weeks there have been so many stories of EU citizens trying to visit the UK and being interrogated and sometimes detained by border force, and denied entry.
I live and work in the UK, and have settled status, but as a lot of people know you don’t get any proof of that when it’s granted (other than an email which I’m pretty sure said this can not be used as proof of settled status).
I haven’t been out of the UK since we officially left the EU, so I was wondering if anyone has been traveling on a European passport with settled settled status, and how that experience had been? Is it problematic or does border force have all the information so they already know you are entitled to live here? I’m not planning a trip abroad until the autumn, but it does worry me

Hi, I don't know but wanted to bump your thread. I hope that after 30 June these actions stop, because I assume now they want the limit the number of new EU arrivals before the deadline.

I will watch this thread, I am outside of the UK wondering whether it's a good idea to visit the in-laws! I do have settled status but all the recent reports are making me a bit nervous.

QuentininQuarantino · 28/05/2021 06:42

I’m so sorry that this is a real concern. The Guardian is looking into it I believe one man, a German UK resident who did have settled status, was refused entry and detained although he had proof. link to the story and I’d be a little nervous in your shoes but you’ve done nothing wrong and shouldn’t be prevented or put off from legally traveling.

I'm not planning to travel this year, but if I do in the future I will make sure to have an active share token on my phone. And then if I end up being stopped, I will raise a massive stink.

To be fair, in the longer term I am also planning to leave the xenophobic UK and am encouraging my DDs to do the same. This country has lost the plot.

I've read the recent stories too and can understand why you're worried. I'm so sorry that this is happening to our EU residents Flowers I imagine you'll probably be fine but realise that's not very reassuring.

Is there really no paper evidence of settled status? That's absolutely crazy.

There isn't, and it is. To prove your settled status, you have to go online and get a share code which you can then show people. The code is valid for 30 days, so you have to remember to ensure it does not expire.

In addition, when your passport expires, you have to link your new passport to your status - I have no idea how that will work and would imagine the process will have problems and has not yet been sufficiently tested in large numbers.

Thanks, Brexiters!

I’m dreading this happening to DH, he’d probably go ballistic. That’s a good tip about the share token though, pointythings.

DH’s real concern is what would happen if he was travelling with DD (7), who has a British passport, and he got detained by some officious border person? What would they do with her, e.g. if they’d just got off a ferry at Dover and it would take me hours to get there from the North West to pick her up?

CynsterBitch · 28/05/2021 17:39

@QueenOfThorns
i hadn’t Even thought of that scenario, they need to sort this out ASAP. I can’t imagine a relaxing holiday worrying about whether or not you can Get back home on your return
