Is there a time when workmen have to stop making noise?

Openreach are doing something down a hole outside my house, whatever they are doing is very noisy and right under DS2s bedroom. I dont want to be a pain as I know they are just doing their job but it has been going on for hours now and DS can't sleep. Is there a particular time they have to stop?

Is it emergency work? I think there is a cut off time for planned works you'd be better to ask your local council or go outside and just ask them if they'll be much longer?I'd be annoyed too OP but sometimes these things are essential

I'm sure to people without broadband/phone they may think it is an emergency but really im not sure how much of a real emergency Openreach could solve. I might have to send DH out soon, they are all down a hole with whatever noisy machine thing they have so it might involve some shouting (to be heard not angry shouting) and I'm not very good at that.

If it's emergency they can go on all night.

If it's planned them they would have stopped around 6.30-7.30pm. (The time will be on your council website.)

If it's emergency repairs, they can go on all night I'm afraid

Hellocatshome · 26/05/2021 21:58

@RedMarauder agh presumably an emergency then although I wish it was a quieter emergency

Can your DS sleep some where else in the house even if it's a mattress on the floor?

Btw I suspect the Openreach people don't want to work overnight either.

Can your DH go out and ask what’s happening/ if there’s an end time in sight?

Yes I know as I said in my opening post I know they are just doing their jobs im not annoyed at the people working just more the situation even though it seems it unavoidable.

I have moved DS2 into DS1s room which is the only one at the back of the house. He has a double bed so they will just have to share which I think may also result in less sleep than normal!

Can your DH go out and ask what’s happening/ if there’s an end time in sight he is going to but I have to wait until the football has finished apparently Hmm

Did he discover anything in the end?

Hellocatshome · 27/05/2021 10:15

Ah well he went out after the football and they were just finishing, he didn't find out what they were doing but apparently it was planned work and we should have known it was happening because there was a x spray painted on the manhole cover (or whatever you call them for phone lines) Hmm

Hellocatshome · 27/05/2021 10:16

Oh and DS1 says DS2 is never sleeping in his bed again because he wriggles too much and talks in his sleep Grin

Well that’s unhelpful! Unless the sprayed x also had the dates and times sprayed on!!!

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 27/05/2021 10:44

You often see crosses or marks spray painted on flagstones or potholes. I assume it means they’re going to be fixed. Nowhere does it say when that will happen though. Ridiculous to be doing planned work so late.
