A GroClock that's not a GroClock?

Does such a thing exist?

I had a GroClock with my eldest and it worked like a charm for helping stop early waking.

Two year old is now up at 5:30 am every day so I'm going to get a new one, only thing is 1) They're now £35 as Tommee Tippee have brought out The Gro Company I'm sure they weren't that much before and 2) I'd really like one that doesn't have a blue lit screen overnight.

Any recommendations please?

We have this one.

Look on Marketplace to find one that doesn't cost £35.

I appreciate that doesn't help with the blue light issue :o If it helps, I don't find it causes any problems.

I would be wary of the knockoff ones on amazon as a lot of them come direct from China so you bypass any of the safety regs and I would not want an unregulated item plugged in in my child's bedroom every night.

You can turn off the blue light overnight.

£35 is crazy!

Is the point of the gro clock that he knows when he is allowed to come out of bed? I’m wondering if one of the smart bulbs you can programme on your phone would do the same job? Set to turn on red when it’s too early to get up and green when he is allowed to get up?

The hue ones are obviously the main ones but you get others that do the the same job and IKEA do really good ones too.

Apologies if I’ve completely misunderstood the point of the clock. We never had one.

I'm annoyed because we had the original one and I can't find it, it must've been binned or given away. I'm sure it wasn't £35 though! I didn't know you could turn the blue light off.

Yes @Curious2021 that's how it works. You press a button when they go to bed and a blue screen comes up with a star, then when it's time to wake up it turns to a yellow sun. We did it gradually with our eldest, so changed it by 15 minutes every 5 days or so I think, and she did stop waking at 5 (she now has to be woken at age 5!). As a 3 year old though we managed to get her to 6/6:30 which was a huge improvement!

Do you have an iPad? There is an app you can get that is similar (moon at night, switches to sun when it's time to get up). Plus you can use Guided Access to lock the iPad to that app so no game playing or YouTube watching can happen. We use this to make sure our 6 year old only uses iPad for audiobooks at bedtime...

Curious2021 · 26/05/2021 21:24

The bulb could definitely work in that case so might be worth a try! You could choose their favourite colours too.

BertieBotts · 27/05/2021 10:48

Yes, you could put a smart bulb into a lamp.

The only thing I'd say is that they tend not to go dim enough to be a nightlight. We have a few smart bulbs and even on 1% brightness they are too bright for me to sleep with it on.

BertieBotts · 27/05/2021 10:49

But if you don't already have smart bulbs and a hub set up then the setup would probably cost over £35...

I think it's only the newer model you can turn off the blue light overnight. We have the older one and you can't.
