My periods have stopped - what could cause it?

I’ve not had a period since February . I had a three week bleed mid-end February and nothing since - nothing at all . I’m not even getting PMT type symptoms, just as if everything’s stopped altogether .

I was taking the pill from beginning to end of Feb but with that three week bleed I stopped it, as it didn’t seem to be suiting me ...

I’ve got an appt with GP next week but have no idea what could be causing it . I’ve got PCOS but have always had fairly regular periods, if anything they’re usually shorter intervals than long gaps - so this isn’t my normal at all .

I’m definitely not pregnant, no weight changes and haven’t been ill or unduly stressed .

What could be causing it; and what are they likely to do? I’m quite worried GP will want to examine - is that likely to be necessary? Aunt suggested this morning it’s just an early menopause but I’m only 29, and haven’t had a family yet; the thought that it could be menopause has panicked me a bit .

Have you had covid? I didn't have a period for three months after. Have you had a negative pregnancy test?

Bagelsandbrie · 26/05/2021 17:01

Get some bloods done. Things like hypothyroidism and high prolactin (both relatively common and easily treatable) can affect periods.

I haven’t no - had Covid I mean, I’ve had both vaccines though .

Can’t be pregnant as I haven’t had sex Blush .

COVID or COVID vaccine?? Loads of anecdotal evidence of this happening.

stuckinarutatwork · 26/05/2021 17:02

Have you had a covid jab in that time? Loads of people have reported either absent periods or earlier / longer / heavier ones.

stuckinarutatwork · 26/05/2021 17:04

Also - they're very unlikely to need to do any internal examinations as the first port of call. It's likely they'll order blood tests and take it from there.

SergeiL · 26/05/2021 17:09

I would say it’s the vaccine. Mine went AWOL for 3 months after the first jab.

Thank you that’s a relief, that’s the one thing I panicked about or I’d have rung a few weeks ago . Hopefully it’s just hormonal or as you say something to do with the vaccines - I had my first mid March and second this week so could easily be that .

I am currently in the same boat. I had a regular period in Feb. I've just had my second covid vaccine last week. ...but I had sex once in Feb with my ex husband. I have done approximately 50 preggo tests and a blood test...I've spoken to the docs and got blood tests tomorrow and need to book a scan apparantly. Doc took me seriously...it's driving me mad and sending my anxietythrough the roof

BashfulClam · 26/05/2021 17:35

@chlo3dancer it answers your question in the OP.

I had the same and the first thing was a blood test to check nothing was amiss first of all.

MustardRose · 26/05/2021 17:42

OP - if your aunt suggested early menopause, then it might be worth asking your female relatives whether there is any history of premature menopause in the family.

theemmadilemma · 26/05/2021 17:46

I've missed several periods at your age through stress, and I was regular as clockwork and on the pill.

TomorrowsPrincess · 26/05/2021 17:51

Usually when you stop your pill it can take some months for your body to regulate your proper monthly cycle.
