Help me decide if I should join David Lloyd or not

So I've had a trial membership and am now at the deciding if I should commit phase. It would just be for me - DS 15 does his own thing as does DH.

I'm just swithering so much because it's so expensive - £88 per month for a non flexible years membership. But I love the outdoor pool and went to a class there and enjoyed that, plus my friends a member and can meet her for a coffee. There's no other outdoor heated pools where I live.

It doesn't really stack up on price per visit. It's a 15 minute drive away so realistically I'll only go on my day off and weekends, and then obviously there are other things to do so I don't want it to turn into a chore.

DH is encouraging me to join - I find it hard to treat myself as you might have guessed , and I hate the thought of wasting money. Last year was my 50th and none of the special trips I'd organised took place. We can afford it as a family. Should I just go for it?

Well update for those who have followed my long and unexciting saga - dear reader I joined Grin.

I'm going to make a conscious effort not to stress about going too much, but instead really enjoy the visits when I'm there. I decided this morning as lots of oldies in the outdoor pool and I thought oh maybe I should wait until I retire, then it struck me that we might not be here as thinking of moving on retirement, so I should really take advantage while I can.

Great news OP! Word of advice - avoid the outdoor pool on sunny weekends or bank holidays if you actually want to swim - you'll have no chance! Seek out the adults only swim times and stick to them. Hope you enjoy it.

Op, can I take the chance to thank you for starting this thread. I am sitting here in the DL club lounge after a leisurely afternoon in the sun and outdoor pool and now waiting for my first Battlebox class to commence (I’m terrified).

I joined Saturday and have been here everyday since for over 3 hours. I am feeling very happy with my purchase at the moment Grin I hope you enjoy your time at your club.

I first joined over 10 years ago and I still love it!

The outdoor pool is 90 % of the reason I joined. I swam at 6am before work in the sunshine last week. Only me in the pool. Absolute bliss

I am so, so jealous of the outdoor pool. Amazing.

rookiemere · 31/05/2021 21:03

The outdoor pool really is amazing. I love it on holiday if there is an opportunity to swim or hot tub outside, so this is it on tap. I've found at the weekends that the pool is generally empty early evening even if is a good day.

That seems like such a waste but what a bonus for you!

I’ve been a member at DL for years but it’s a London club so significantly more than £88. I’ll also have to start paying for DD soon when she turns 3.

Pre-DD I used to go every day before work and loved it. Now I only manage to go once a week but I enjoy it so much that to me it’s worth it. I’m also planning to take DD swimming once a week soon.

I used to use the gym but now I tend to only swim. As DD gets older we’ll probably use it more. Whilst the cost per visit is ridiculous, it’s great for my health. I love to swim and whilst we have a local, much cheaper pool it’s not very nice and I know I wouldn’t go.
