Anyone had a torn meniscus operated on?

Just found out mine is torn and that they think only surgery is gonna help. Having trouble with walking and sleeping and sitting.

@Kakiweewee mine were super painful when they tore for about 3 months. They are more annoying than painful now.

Yes, but it didn't do much good; I had to have a knee replacement the following year.

I've no idea how I tore it because I'm not the most active. I do a lot of walking but that's it and I don't remember any particular instance of hurting it. Unless arthritis can cause tears?

It's made a difference but more so to my left leg. My right leg had a flap tear so some of the meniscus was caught in the joint, which stopped it from bending fully. It's still painful but there's definitely more movement there than before. The surgeon said both my knees looked good so not sure why it's still painful - I guess it's just time before it heals properly.
