I’ve just submitted my final assignment for my second year at uni (yay!). I’ve been heads down studying for months and I have completed neglected myself, (not so yay!) I’ve put weight on, about a stone and half over the last couple of years but I wasn’t slim to begin with, so probably need to lose 3 stone realistically...I’m a single mum of two teenagers, in my forties and I also work alongside uni studies, as well as doing a work placement, so I’ve been flat out busy, and I’ve been over eating, probably drinking too much and I’m horribly unfit...but I have a couple of months off uni now, so want to sort myself out. Where do I start?! I’ve got a Noom subscription that I’ve ignored for a month 🙈 so I’m planning to re-engage with that, but I’m after some tips to make me healthier, slimmer and happier in myself...and preferably quickly! I’ve been studying online due to Covid, but I hoping to have back on campus in September, and I’d like to feel and look my best...Anyone got any tips they’d like to share with me please? 😊😊

Oh and Re alcohol I've really cut down on drinking too.
Got AF beer in the fridge incase i feel like drinking during the week.
I try to have a very restrained night (0-2 glasses) and then have a night of just relaxing, so maybe 2-3 glasses at the weekend.

I’ve lost 3 stone since the start of Jan and I’ve gone from a BMI of 29.8 (nearly obese) to a healthy bmi of 23.4. What worked for me was -

  • get a Fitbit.
  • try to walk at least 10000 steps a day
  • go to a tdee calculator and work out how many calories you burn a day. Minus however many you are comfortable with but make sure you are in a deficit.
  • log all your food on Fitbit app making sure you weigh portions. Yes it’s a ball ache but it worked for me.
  • don’t cut out any food groups. Try to eat healthily, plenty of fruit, veg and wholegrain but eat whatever you want in moderation. In previous diets I’d done I’d end up resticting too much, craving something and then end up binging and packing it all in. This way if I fancy a brownie I have a brownie. Log it and move on, maybe have a lighter dinner to compensate.

Obviously this won’t work for everyone but it has for me and I’m feeling a million times better than I was in January. Good luck Op. hope you find something that works for you

Maybe try measuring your waist instead of looking at scales - can be an alternative way?
