How was this a Fair sleep on my Fitbit?

Hi,

I should point out that I really didn't think I'd get on with a sleep tracker and assumed I'd use my Fitbit for everything but that, as I didn't want to over think, as I've had real issues with sleep in the past.

However, I have actually found them occasionally reassuring and even though I average around 6-6.30hrs, my quality is normally fairly good and I'll take that!

Anyway, I went out like a light last night around 11, then woke up a little before 6. For the first time I was actually quite excited to check my score, but I got a sleep score of 76 "Fair", with 7hrs 26mins. 1hr 15 deep sleep and 4hr 30 mins light sleep.

I just don't get it. I had exactly the same score when I had 6hrs 23min with less deep and light sleep.

It's really disheartening. I had my jab yesterday, so thought maybe it could be that, but my BPM and oxygen levels were fine too.

Could it be a blip? I have had a "Good" score on much less.

TIA

I think how YOU feel you slept is more important than how your fitbit feels you slept!

CeibaTree · 24/05/2021 07:30

Did you wake up feeling rested and refreshed? Surely that's a better indicator of your sleep quality!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 24/05/2021 07:32

I can be awake half the night, but because I'm lying down in bed it tells me I've slept well...

@MoiraNotRuby and @CeibaTree, I don't feel fantastic, but was assuming that might be to do with my jab.

How much REM sleep did you have? That's apparently the most important type.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 24/05/2021 07:40

You're looking for a fitbit to validate you rather than trusting how you feel in yourself. That's your issue.

AbsolutelyFudged · 24/05/2021 07:42

@Lanique, 1hr 30mins - 18%

Usually it’s to di with your resting heat rate

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 24/05/2021 07:44

If it reassures you, they are not proper medical devices, and can be pretty unreliable.

Imo, if a watch is causing you health anxiety then it is not helping you. What your watch's algorithm says should have no impact on your peace of mind at all. If you feel you slept well that's the only thing that matters.

Flopsy88 · 24/05/2021 07:52

I've always wondered about this. It seems to decide your sleep score based on the percentage of your sleep being REM/deep. It shows it if you click on 'benchmark'. So if you sleep for longer but have the same amount of REM/deep sleep and more light sleep it lowers the score. I don't understand why because even light sleep is important. I really wouldn't be worrying about it though! Especially if it's just one night. If tracking your sleep is stressing you out then it's probably counterproductive and it might be better not to

This is the key. These watches are intended to help keep people healthy, but it helps no-one's health to sorry about their metrics like this.

FakeColinCaterpillar · 24/05/2021 08:01

I think you have to have 8 hours for a good sleep.

partyatthepalace · 24/05/2021 08:03

Fitbits can’t accurately measure your quality of sleep - it’s just a bullshit gimmick designed to increase your Fitbit habit. If it helps you in that it reminds you to go to bed on time - great, but if it’s causing you worry stop using it.

AbsolutelyFudged · 24/05/2021 08:41

@FakeColinCaterpillar, I've had a "Good" nights sleep on 6hr 20min.

As most of you are saying, I should probably just stop stressing over it. It is indeed, very counterproductive.
