He’s such a great role model.

Froglette16 · 23/05/2021 23:22

Love him! ❤️

perenniallymessy · 23/05/2021 23:40

Wow.

Good to see Jordan Henderson on there too. A good example to young football fans from those two.

Obviously the work he has done is great but that is super misleading as he isn’t donating his own money to the extent that that list suggests

Billandben444 · 24/05/2021 06:32

This is so misleading - a great chap but not sure he's actually donated much of his own money

newnortherner111 · 24/05/2021 07:20

We should applaud and admire him for the campaign he has led, but be ashamed that this country's governments have been so bad that it was even necessary in the first place.

NoSquirrels · 24/05/2021 07:29

You get on that list by giving or raising money for charity. So he deserves to be there just as much as any of the others - Lord Sainsbury, Jordan Henderson, they’re all ranked by the same criteria. Jordan Henderson is for the PlayersTogether appeal, so lots of other players donated there too.

What he has done is arguably harder than just giving your own money when you have loads to spare. He has mobilised the nation into giving by raising awareness and campaigning the government for change. A much harder task than just making a massive donation in my opinion.

Aspiringmatriarch · 24/05/2021 07:50

What an amazing man he is. We need more like him. Not only giving money but also bringing this issue into the light.

Unreal. There's always one. As a PP explained:

TheQueef · 24/05/2021 08:42

Some people Hmm misleading is different to you not understanding how the list works but yep assume it's them not you.

Well done Marcus, your Mum must be so proud.

NoSquirrels · 24/05/2021 08:47

In fairness to the posters saying it’s misleading, that particular article didn’t set out the criteria, and when you top the list having seemingly ‘given away’ more than 125% of your personal wealth I see why it looks misleading.

But he’s done an astonishing thing, and backed it heavily with his own money as well as getting donations from others and forcing policy change.

There are always going to be people that have a go, or want to cut successful people down, but Marcus Rashford really doesn’t deserve any snark.

Plexie · 24/05/2021 08:52

The tweet the OP linked to says:

The 23-year-old has donated £20 million to food, poverty and community charities (partnered with FareShare) – a sum greater than his personal wealth.

It says donated, not raised. The tweet is misleading so stop accusing PPs of being snarky.

Hoppinggreen · 24/05/2021 08:56

He’s an absolute star.
I remember listening to a piece about him on the radio and during his Y6 residential he got up 2 hours before everyone else to train.
Brilliant role model and I hate it when people do the “yes but he didn’t do XYZ “ - he actually didn’t HAVE to give OR raise a single penny so why can’t we just focus on what he has done?

Tal45 · 24/05/2021 09:03

I think he's amazing, such a sweetheart.
