So proud of my 18yo DS...

He was out in town on Friday night with schoolmates - last day of term for them. They were out late afternoon and by 1am, still not home. I messaged him to ask where he was and he messaged back, sorry, we were helping a lass who was a bit drunk.

Anyway he duly came home safe and sound - today I discovered the full story: he and a couple of mates came across a uni student very very drunk and on her own, saying she was planning to go to some club. DS2 and his pals talked her out of this, found out where she lived, walked her home and got her flatmates to come and take her in. DS2 took a number for one of the flatmates and texted him the next day to see how the student was - she was fine.

I am just really impressed with DS - he and his mates are not long turned 18, literally just left school, this was one of their first times in town - and they had the nous to realise that the young women was vulnerable and the compassion and care to get her home safe and even check up on her later.

Not even sure why I am posting this except to say, lots of teenage lads get a bad press but at least there are some who know when to do the right thing.

How lovely. I don't think acts like this are that rare really. We just hear about the negative incidents.

I experienced a lovely act of kindness recently from a bunch of teenagers. It made my day.

FloodgatesofHell · 23/05/2021 18:40

You have raised a good man. Credit to you ❤️

Chamonixshoopshoop · 23/05/2021 18:43

Lovely, what a wonderful job you’ve done ☺️ I have 2 sons and really hope they turn out like this!

Inastatus · 23/05/2021 18:45

You have every right to be very proud. Well done to him and his mates.

pilates · 23/05/2021 18:46

What a lovely uplifting story. I would be proud too.

Chasingsquirrels · 23/05/2021 18:50

That's lovely, and I imagine you feel rightly proud!

Ds1 went to a sleepover after his yr 11 prom and walked a girl to where ever she was going from their campsite cos he didn't want her walking about on her own, then went back to the campsite. I felt much the same when he told me about that.

Gatehouse77 · 23/05/2021 18:54

Credit to your parenting (and the other lads) and his conscientiousness.

My DS did similar except she’d lost her keys and lived alone. Brought her back to our house, texted her boyfriend and parents, slept on the floor of his room. They collected her the next morning.
Only thing I suggested was that if it were to happen again he should sleep in a different room, just in case.

CrystalE · 23/05/2021 19:00

Lovely story. You are right to be proud

OvertheRainbow2U · 23/05/2021 19:00

What a great lad - and his pals - you have every right to be proud!

EeeByeGummieBear · 23/05/2021 19:00

Well done OP for raising such a thoughtful young man. You're right- teenagers get such a bad press. It's lovely to hear such a heartwarming story

Nietzschethehiker · 23/05/2021 19:14

What a great DC and thats wonderful to hear.

My DF fell in a car park recently and a group of teenage lads ran over to help him and were absolutely brilliant. My DF can be a grumpy cantankerous sod and he was incredibly touched at how much they helped him and how they helped him not to be embarrassed.

Give you hope for the next generation doesn't it.

Verbena87 · 23/05/2021 19:17

Secondary teacher (up to a level) here and totally with you that teenagers get a totally unjustified bad press - as your son demonstrates, loads of them are awesome (and much more perceptive and responsible than I ever remember being!).

What a star!

toocold54 · 23/05/2021 19:20

Lovely story!
It’s often all doom and gloom on here and in the media so it’s always nice to know there are good people out there Grin

MrsScrubbingbrush · 23/05/2021 19:27

Well done OP and her son (and friends). Just goes to show that there are decent people out there. You must be very proud.

GreyhoundG1rl · 23/05/2021 19:29

You've raised him well, you should be rightly proud. He sounds fab.
