If you had a VBAC after a ELCS, did you go overdue?

I know that first births tend to be past due dates and subsequent births closer to EDD, but is that still the case when the first is an ELCS?

I had an ELCS at 39+5 with DC1, and had no signs on being in labour (not engaged, no dilation) so can assume I would have gone typical-for-first-baby overdue

I’m now weighing up whether to think about a VBAC for a very long-awaited #2, but can’t find any stats on whether I’m still looking at being overdue?

I know they can’t induce for me for a VBAC nor will they let me go past 41 weeks, for fear of a rupture, so my worst case is ending up with a ELCS after the misery of another week or two of late pregnancy..!

Not entirely sure what you are asking. I have never gone to my due date with any of my 4. I had a c-section with my first due to waters breaking, but then no progress and baby not moving. I had VBAC's for the subsequent 3 births, second baby was six weeks prem born at 34 weeks, third and fourth born a few days before due dates.

I tried for a vbac after 2 sections and went 8 days overdue. I had a ELCS booked for 41 weeks as they wouldn’t induce me. I went into labour naturally but it ended in EMCS.

I had ds2 by vbac at 40+1, but I think (it was 7.5 years ago) that they were ok with leaving me until 42wks before making any decisions. Ds3 was early at 37+4 and vbac.

I had an elective section for my first. For my second I always said I’d have a VBAC if it was a spontaneous labour. I both went over 41 weeks and was offered an induction! I was told I had 50:50 odds of an induction ending in an emergency section so I asked for and had another scheduled caesarean at nearly 42 weeks. Baby was wedged in an awkward position, had the cord very tightly wrapped around their neck several times so remaining cord was very short and they had an absolutely massive head, so I’m happy with that decision - it was never going to have been an easy VBAC.

Your worst case doesn’t sound all that bad to me. I’d have said a non tragic worst case for me was an extended attempt at a VBAC followed by an emergency caesarean anyway.

Thanks everyone, that’s given me food for thought

@Babyroobs
I suppose what I’m asking is whether a VBAC after an ELCS should be viewed as a first or second birth when looking at the likelihood for going overdue
It’s widely recognised that first babies are more likely to be late than subsequent ones but I can’t see anything that assumes that subsequent babies follow a natural delivery

Nope. 3 weeks early.

I was overdue with mine so had to have a balloon induction?? Can’t remember the proper name, it was awful, never again! I was 2 weeks over due and it didn’t work and ended with an emcs again I’ve been overdue with all 4 of mine so I’m not sure it’s true about being closer to the due date with subsequent children
