Toy ideas for a 4 year old that don’t have loads of small parts?

Now we’re able to see my parents again with my 4 year old, we’re thinking about picking up some second hand toys to keep at their house. Up to now, he’s been happy with some old baby toys and puzzles they had hanging around from my childhood but he’s grown up a lot recently and these are too young for him now.

Quite a few of toys he plays with at home have lots of small parts (lego, marble run, etc.) My parents struggle to cope with this as they have mobility issues and get very agitated about small bits and pieces on the floor that they might step or slip on.

We have some sticker books/crafts kits, etc. but what would be some good cheapish or second-hand toys for him? He does like small world stuff, dinosaurs and animals, so I have a few ideas but would love some recommendations.

Thanks!

The Ikea version of the wooden trainset? I know it's not as good as the market names but for the amount of track for your money you get a lot.

A transformer?

Train set is a good call.

Cars/trucks/animals/dinosaurs/knights and horses/my little pony (just take the small pieces out)/happyland stuff.

Duplo - he can have Lego and Duplo, just explain that Lego is too small for grandparents house.

Puzzles with biggish pieces.

Thanks for all these.
Didn’t know things like the aqua lock box existed - so that’s really useful.
He had a wooden train set and hardly ever played with it so it’s been in a box in the garage but it probably would be at my parents because of the novelty value.
Thanks!

Does he like any TV characters? You can often find play sets.

My children at school love small world, we have a dolls house but took photos of each of them (full length) and attached them to a small block, so they get to play with characters of themselves and their friends. You could do this using photos of family.
