How long do you keep a sofa for

And what do you do with it when you're done? Our sofa is about 10 years old but still has life in it - but I'd like a new one / don't want to be wasteful. I'm flip flopping.

We've had ours about 25 years. It's going strong and there is no compelling reason to replace it.

We had our last sofas (leather) for 20 years and just sold them as still pretty decent despite surviving three babies/toddlers and two cats. Just bought a new one (waiting for it to arrive). I feel like maybe things aren't made to last anymore and we'll end up replacing this a lot sooner than 20 years from now.....

Until it’s done in. The council does large collections here, it’s 25 quid a sofa, we just needed to get it outside, booked it on line they came and collected it.

Usually many years. We are only on our 3rd after 30+ years. Our current one is about 4 years old and we want to replace it. Feels wasteful as it is in perfect condition. May try selling it unless one of the kids want it. (they won't)

If you want a change and can afford it, go for it.
We’ve had ours about 5.5 years, but it was second hand when we got it, they reckoned about 18 months but light use with them as they were immaculate when we got them.
I certainly have no immediate plans to change them, they’re so comfy, still suit our decor and sofas are expensive 😂

If the frames are good and the styles classic a lifetime or more. We have a family room sofa purchased in 2002 for £650 which is going strong after a set of loose covers and more recently a complete reupholster. To be fair the re-upholster was £1200 but evidently the frame is fabulously made (it was JL sale originally). Two Darlings sofas were reupholstered after only 6/7 years and were worth it. Also have a couple of 19th century winged armchairs from my gps which I have had reupholstered twice largely for sentimental reasons.

Mine is approx 20 years old. Its knackered but I really cannot be arsed with getting it removed and buying a new one. I don't know if the wait is still around 4 months? I rent and I plan to buy I'll buy one when I move. Or the landlord gives me notice. Whichever comes sooner.

Our last 3 sofas have all been second hand. The first was given to us when we
moved in and was on its last legs anyway (and I hated it!). That went within the year and I got a second hand one from a charity shop. That lasted 3 years until we were very kindly gifted a barely used sofa from a family friend. We've had that 3 years.

Last week we got our first ever brand new proper suite! The last gifted sofa has gone in the playroom as it still has plenty of life left in it (but couldn't give it away as it's grubby disgusting from DC).

Our brand new suite I intend to keep forever! (Realistically 10 years or so I expect)
