Did anybody get married in 1981?

It's my parents Ruby Wedding coming up and would like to get some photos/things together from when they got married in 1981. Did anybody else get married that year? Apart from Charles and Diana... Can you remember what you had on your gift list for example or what food you had at the reception? Just to help them have a trip down memory Lane. I know they still have the dinner service they were given on their wedding day 😀

A lot of receptions were buffets, and if so they almost invariably involved Coronation Chicken and quiche (which of course real men didn't eat).

Household goods (still usually for setting up from scratch) would dominate gift lists, and there's a good chance things would come from Habitat. The mainly brown, homely, flowing lines sort of look of the 70s was just giving way to the white/red and more angular of the early 80s. For some reason, by DMum always used to give salad servers as a present about then. YY to fondu sets, electric carving knives and toasters. Basically anything you can remember from the conveyor belt on The Generation Game (possibly not the cuddly toy!)

It's a bit early, but the Johnson Bros octagonal crockery was just about to explode into popularity.

(Re)read Riders and Rivals - they're set about then and will get you in the mood!

@Rainbowsew

We always had pomagne not sure show to spell it. But I think it was fizzy pear juice maybe a little bit of alcohol?

We had asti spumante too that felt really elegant and grown up!

Pomagne was a mash up word from pomme and champagne, and was essentially posh cider in champagne bottles.

Babycham was still around and branded martinis were being heavily advertised (Leonard Rossiter and Joan Collins) and I think the Luton Airport Campari ads were around then too

Lovely to hear about others! My mum won't part with anything and know she's still got her dinner set (no pattern left on it) and an electric carving knife that were wedding presents!
