Astra Zeneca, sleepless nights, insomnia, no sleep.

Morning all. At my wits end after a few sleepless nights.
came on here as I'm on day 9 of sleepless nights. I had Astra Zeneca last Wednesday 12/05/21.
First night I didn't sleep a wink, absolutely nothing. Blamed it on worrying about blood clots and being on my phone too much.
Day two I managed 4 hrs sleep.
Day 3 same as day one, not a wink.
Sleeping tablet on day 4 which usually knocks me out, but had a light restless night.
Day 5 to present have been similar as above, either no sleep at all or very light sleep.
Last night I went to bed at 4am (this morning) and I was up at 8am.
I don't particularly feel tired, but it's getting silly and frustrating now and also worried it could be affecting my work.
Other than lack of sleep, I've had no other side effects at all, not even a sore arm.
Has anyone experienced similar? Only this morning did I connect it to the jab. Hopefully won't last long. Thanks.

It's stress, obviously. Maybe consult your doctor.

I had COVID-19 last year and have had my first AZ. I slept very well when I was sick because I was so exhausted (had fever dreams on the worst nights, though). I was wiped out by-mid afternoon the day of my jab, slept a lot and couldn't eat my dinner, still tired the next day but not so bad. I appreciate we're all different, but I agree with pp that's it's more likely to be stress than a side-effect of AZ.

Why are people so confident that this is stress? A quick internet search uncovers a bunch of articles that link the jab to insomnia as a relatively rare but very possible side effect. One doctor said it might be the immune system going into overdrive. I think there's quite a few people out there posting with the same query. I hope you get some sleep soon!

Discuss with your doctor and record it as a symptom through the yellow card scheme.

The vaccine testing didn't specifically test for female hormonal response but women's immune systems are linked to their female hormones. Female hormones in turn are linked to circadian rhythms - eg women approaching menopause often experience insomnia.

Of course there is a school of thought that says everything women experience is to do with "stress". Funny how men don't get told this.

Thank you all, I've mentioned it to my doctor and had also done the yellow card.
My immune is known to go into overdrive, so this makes sense. thanks.

Do you often have trouble sleeping?

If so it could have been exacerbated by the AZ I suppose?

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 22/05/2021 18:21

This happened to me both with covid and the AZ vaccination. Doctors were utterly useless, but I think it does something to my central nervous system. Ive had a similar reaction to a type of antibiotic as well.
