Theme Park Dilemma

Sorry this isn't a particularly interesting thread but I have a dilemma!

20mph winds in a theme park. Would you?

We're on holiday until Monday. I can't decide whether to go to the Theme Park I have booked & paid for, as the wind is pretty wild here and is forecast 20mph. As a lone parent it's up to me to decide.

We can't go another day due to the distance. What would you do??

Does it have a rainy day guarantee? And are the kids bothered by rain and winds? We've been where we've had wrinkly toes as our feet are so wet but the park was relatively empty.
In terms of safety the park will shut any needed due to the weather. I'd definitely go if you've booked and paid for, theme parks are not cheap.

We went to chessington a few weeks ago and the weather was a bit meh and forecast rain. Thought oh well nevermind if we get wet. Was a bit windy but i didn’t particularly think of it as a windy day iyswim..

Anyway lots of rides kept closing due to ‘high winds’ , the kids queued for a long time only to have the ride close.

We spent around 45 minutes waiting for the vampire which they closed and we had to walk through the ride to leave.

Anyway it was a fairly frustrating experience and I’d think carefully if you’re travelling a long way to go.

Thanks.

@CMSdividend Unsure about the guarantee. It's Flamingo Land. However it's an hour and a half away from where we actually live (40 mins from where we are today) so wouldn't be able to go another day. A refund would be nice though!

We were once booked for legoland, an entire weekend break so had no choice.
Dress appropriately and hopefully it will dry up.
Even on good weather days the odd ride can be shut so I wouldn't let that put me off.
Up side is queues will be shorter!

CMSdividend · 22/05/2021 09:08

Oh if you're only 90 mins away usually then I'd probably go another time. All the big theme parks are 90 mins to 2 hours away from us and we do them in a day.

confusedofengland · 22/05/2021 09:23

Can you contact them to ask if rides often close in windy weather?

We went to Thorpe Park last September with DS1 on one of his inset days, a special day for just him as the other Dses were at school. However, it was quite a windy day & being on an 'island' meant it was worse & lots of rides closed. Was quite disappointing as we don't often get days with just him. In our case at least we had annual passes so it didn't cost much on the day iyswim.

Why couldn't you go another day if only an hour and 40 minutes away? Out closest is 2 hours plus the M25 car park and we would still go!

Some of the rides won't be open if gusting. I'd look at swapping to another day.

Do they have a rainy day policy?

IhaveMyMoments · 22/05/2021 10:53

Go another day.. 90 min away is nothing

idontlikealdi · 22/05/2021 10:56

Go another day, it's perfectly doable In a day. We're going to chessington tomorrow and it's 2 hours away.

alrightfella · 22/05/2021 11:32

Go another day. 90 mins is fine for a day out!

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 22/05/2021 11:33

1.5hrs drive for a day out is fine! Save it for a warmer day. FL isnt cheap. I'd want to be able to spend the whole day there and enjoy it all

Gizlotsmum · 22/05/2021 11:36

Do you have an option to change the tickets? I’d be tempted to go and see how it goes if you can’t get your money back.. if you can get your money back maybe do another day

Ukholidaysaregreat · 22/05/2021 11:37

I think just do it. Put your coats on. Other people will be put off and you won't have to queue for as long. What would you do instead? No point going to beach / for a walk etc if weather bad. Probably got some inside bits too. Have a good day.
