Any hairdressers around? Would you be offended by this?

I had my hair cut and coloured today at a new salon. 8 months since last cut and colour. We’ve moved areas hence new salon.

Guy doing it was really nice. I had a quick consultation with him earlier in the week when I popped in to do a skin patch test.

Anyway. Most money I have ever spent on my hair.

The colour is great. Very happy with it.

The cut is excellent. I can feel it’s a great cut. He spent ages on It.

But it makes me look ten years older.

It’s a bob. Shorter than I was expecting as we didn’t really discuss how much he would take off. But that’s ok. It’s only hair and it will grow.

But the shape is a bit round. It needs more layers.

I’m thinking of calling tomorrow to see if I can pop in and ask him to slice into it to thin out the bottom and change the shape a bit.

Just a bit concerned he might be offended. Which is stupid really.

Anyway. Would you be offended if a client asked this?

It doesn't matter whether he's offended or not, if you're not totally happy with it then he needs to sort it out. It's your hair, go ahead and get it cut the way you want it! If it was me, I'd want my client to be happy.

LuvMyBubbles · 23/05/2021 03:14

I would. His reaction and solution will determine if you go back. He may win you over as a very loyal customer. If not look elsewhere

Im a hairdresser and I’d want to know if someone wasn’t 100% happy
I’d rather they spoke out so I could do some minor adjustments rather than not saying anything and being unhappy

It's your hair, you have every right to ask this. I doubt he will be offended

oodlesofnoodle · 23/05/2021 08:03

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest.. we don't get everything spot on but I'd want to know so I could fix it and have you come back!

Imissmoominmama · 23/05/2021 08:07

I had a similar haircut once- new hairdresser too. I went back and told her my son had said my head looked like an onion- she still chuckles about that now!

Dizzy1234 · 23/05/2021 08:27

Definitely go back, I've just had a restyle and colour after not having my hair cut for a year, new hairdresser too.
She said if find you want a bit more off or can't cope with the fringe give me a ring.
A good hairdresser wants you to be happy, their professional reputation relies on happy customers.
Give him a ring on Monday, explain what you've said here and ask him if you can pop back in, he'll say yes I'm sure

chocolateorangeinhaler · 23/05/2021 08:34

Are you prepared to pay for the adjustment to the haircut? Or are you expecting it for free?

You obviously said at the time you were happy or he would have altered the cut there and then.

Unfortunately nobody is a mind reader, they don't know what you want and if you don't say at the time and you leave saying your happy that's not their fault.

Obviouspretzel · 23/05/2021 09:06

If he is a good hairdresser, he wont be offended at all. He will want you to be happy with the result, and personal preference on the cut is no reason to be offended.

BinocularVision · 23/05/2021 09:10

Why on earth are you worried about someone being ‘offended’ if you spent a lot of money on a service and didn’t like the result?

Although your post is confusing. You say the cut is great, then you also say it’s too round, too short, needs layers, and makes you look ten years older — which is it?

Peridot1 · 23/05/2021 09:14

I phoned yesterday and they are happy for me to pop back in and have some texture added. They offered to try to fit it in yesterday but seemed relieved I said I would be happy to wait until Tuesday as I know Saturday is such a busy day.

@chocolateorangeinhaler - hoping I won’t be asked to pay. I paid an awful lot of money on Friday. It’s not a major adjustment. It’s just slicing into it to add some texture. It’s currently a bit triangular looking and he specifically said he wanted to avoid that. I’m a new client and he is new to my hair. So it sometimes takes a bit of time to get used to each other. If I am asked to pay I will but won’t go back again. So for the sake of ten minutes to make a potentially very regular client happy I would hope they would see the business sense of adjusting it for free.

BinocularVision - it’s a good cut but and would really suit someone else.

Yes it’s shorter than I was expecting but that doesn’t worry me. It will grow.

Because there are no layers it hangs very flat which doesn’t suit me. It’s really hard both for clients and hairdressers with masks on. You don’t get a proper view really.

Ive done similar, i emailed afterwards saying i didnt like my colour and it wasnt what i had asked for. They fitted me in the following day, guy was aplogetic, fixed it for me and was a lot better.

And dont worry about them asking you to pay again. If they are decent they will understand that its difficult to say at the time in a busy salon that you arent happy with it, and may want to go home and try restyling yourself before commiting to wanting it changed. And tbh arranging a time specifically to fix it is probably a lot better for them than announcing you dont like it, when they have their next client sitting waiting for their appointment. Much more hassle i would have thought.

HappydaysArehere · 23/05/2021 10:23

You have been pleased overall but could he make a couple of adjustments. He will want you as a regular customer and at the beginning sometimes they don’t get exactly what you had in mind. They soon do though and that is why I keep the same hairdresser.
