Do I have it change my log book if I use a personalised number plate?

I've just bought a personalised number plate and wondering if I have to change my log book before I can put the plates on my car?

I'm looking to change my car in around 6 months so wondering if I'll have it pay another £80 then to take it back off again?

I'm struggling to find the answers on the internet

yes you would, the DVLA records for the car need to be updated to reflect the new plate (MOT, chassis number etc) and you would need to inform your insurance company who many well charge an admin fee too.
If you put it on and then change the car, the same steps need to be taken and the £80 fee would be payable.

You have to re register your car with the new number firstvand then you take the new document to a garage or a registered supplier to make and put the new number on your car. You definitely have to pay again to move the number when you sell the car. If you don’t want to pay twice just keep the number for six months until you buy your next car.

Also once I've changed it to my new plate does that mean I lose my old Reg number? What happens when I want to sell my car, do I have to buy a new number for it or can I use the original reg number?

When you apply to DVLA to remove the plate and put it back into a certificate (to change the vehicle) DVLA will issue a suitable registration number for the car, whenever I have taken my plate off they have reissued the original reg plate back to the car so I presume this is the most likely outcome and now keep the original plates in the garage for when I take the plate off (properly done legal plates are surprisingly expensive!)
