Do some children just carry bugs?

My poor Dd just gets battered by every bug going. I tried nursery winter 2019 and took her out after four months of continuous bugs. Every one floors her. She was mix fed, takes vitamins, always outside, good diet.

2020 no issues.

This year into a toddler group, absolutely fine. Till a friend's child starts who goes to the old nursery as well. This child is fit, strong and always has a runny nose. Without fail, every time Dd goes near him she gets a full blown bug.

Friday toddlers, today still sick, nearly a week.

I'm actually thinking of taking her out again I feel so sorry for her.

But why is she being so badly hit? The other child seems to carry the bugs and just give them to others without being particularly unwell. His mum has said the same. She picks up everything from him, so he might be sick once, she has it for days.

Anything I could try? Really getting to me now.

My youngest dd was the same. Always raging cold, high temp, perma cough. She is starting school this September and I've noticed over the past year she doesn't suffer half as much as she used to. Any cold she catches is mild and she doesn't get a temperature anymore with them. She's been in nursery most of winter. She still has a cough but we have realised this is hay fever as it starts in March and goes away mid summer.
The more they are exposed to early on, the stronger their immune system when starting school.

God I hope so. Feel so bloody sorry for her. She's just miserable. She's starting to notice it as well age two. Don't want to see X, get poorly. Sad

Do you give a vitamin D supplement? It can help the immune system.

Just the halibo multi vitamin. Had a good look in chemist and others seem to be three plus. Would you suggest a d on top of halibo? Or a better one?

I don’t know - I thought Vit D drops are available to add to food as they’re recommended for all children under 5? I’m no expert but if it’s not something you’re giving then it might be worth thinking about.

I was told that kids will get bugs for first year in new childcare setting then will settle down. Also was told the more time they spend outdoors the less bugs they get, we have good wet and cold weather gear and DD is out at the weekends for at least a few hours and her school does a lot of outdoors. Seems to work we have very few bugs.

I think it takes a year or so of being in a new "setting" for things to settle down. You just have to muddle through it - if it doesn't happen in nursery or pre-school it'll just happen in reception and you won't be able to withdraw her then.

Yes outside all the time, farmer.

Will look into vitamin d.

I just wondered why she seems to be so much worse than others, particularly this one child who sits at a low level bug constantly but is never unwell unwell. That child has been in childcare throughout and had never been bothered. You name it DD has had it.
