Would you eat this?

Unopened pack of M&S Mexican chicken, dated yesterday.

My DP has a bit of phobia of things like this (relative died from sepsis caused by food poisoning) which has rubbed off on me.

Shall I just bin it and be done?

I'd eat it.

ZoeMaye · 20/05/2021 12:11

I never take risks with chicken so I wouldn't.

idontlikealdi · 20/05/2021 12:12

The deli stuff? Yes.

Mumdiva99 · 20/05/2021 12:12

Is it cooked or uncooked? Does it smell off? I would probably risk it if the packet hadn't blown out and it didn't smell odd.

giletrouge · 20/05/2021 12:13

Unopened, dated yesterday, pre-cooked?
Eat.

HollowTalk · 20/05/2021 12:13

Yesterday? Yes, I'd eat that; it's only hours over the limit.

ShirleyPhallus · 20/05/2021 12:14

Sniff it, if fine then eat it

countrypunk · 20/05/2021 12:15

Definitely! The food waste in this country is insane because so many people religiously stick to use by/best before dates. (I get that they're different but I would definitely still eat it, unless it smelled rancid.)

4PawsGood · 20/05/2021 12:16

Is it cooked or raw? If raw do you think you would smell of it was off?

Crunchymum · 20/05/2021 12:43

It's one of those precooked / packaged chicken slices.

BarbaraofSeville · 20/05/2021 12:49

Definitely. I buy yellow stickered items from M&S quite often and usually either freeze or eat the next day. I've probably had 'one day out of date' food from M&S dozens or even hundreds of times and never been ill or even found anything that seemed off.

This!
Mimsytove · 20/05/2021 13:24

Never mess with chicken. I bought some reduced chicken dated for that day, got home and it was off. I never buy or eat chicken without at least a few days on the BBD

Twinkie01 · 20/05/2021 13:25

No but I'd feed it to DH.

There's a difference between buying it reduced and buying it fresh but then leaving it in the fridge too long.

Shops have open fridges which aren't always exactly the same temperature, and you never know how many people have picked up the product, walked around with it in their basket for 10 minutes and then changed their mind and put it back. If it's been safely in your own fridge since purchase, it'll be fine.

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 20/05/2021 13:30

I'd check it obvs, but if it seemed fine I'd have no issues with eating it. People waste way too much food due to this.

bananaboats · 20/05/2021 13:54

If it smells fine I'd eat it.

Mimsytove · 20/05/2021 14:35

@bananapumpkin your comment has taken me to a new level of horror, the fact that anything in a supermarket could have been on a journey and put back. Horror.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 20/05/2021 14:38

Yup id eat it

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 20/05/2021 16:25

probably still ok to eat, unless it smells/tastes off.

I'd try it and would eat it if it tastes ok

GreyhoundG1rl · 20/05/2021 16:39

No. Anything but chicken. That stuff is toxic when it goes off.

minniemoll · 20/05/2021 16:41

I'd eat it tomorrow....

MamaWeasel · 20/05/2021 16:41

You'd smell if it was off......eat and enjoy!

IliveonCoffee · 20/05/2021 16:42

I'd eat it.

But is it like prepacked thick slices or chunks, or wafer thin ones?

If its the former, I'd potentially warm it through and have a warmed sandwich, or toss in some pasta.

Food doesn't turn at the stroke of midnight.
