School part-time job interview - nearly 4 hours

I have an interview for a part-time school job (exams assistant, 15 hours, 1 yr contract) and I’ve just received the confirmation email and it will be 3 hours 45 mins. Told to bring lunch and a drink, pen, passport, evidence of right to work, and all school/degree certificates. The email says HR will meet me initially, and the day will include the interview, lunch and meeting key staff. No mention of assessments etc.

Is it usual to have such a long interview process for a school job does anyone know? Also, I’ve never had to provide passports etc unless I’ve had a second interview and I get a job offer.

Maybe all short-listed applicants are going and the staff want to assess us all at once, see how we interact etc??

HR advised the hours first on the phone so it’s not a typo

I’m a teacher, so not quite the same, but quite common for schools to ask you to bring in all those things. Guess it’s quicker to get the ball rolling?
They might need you to meet key staff at certain times, hence the length.
But I’m just guessing really 😂good luck!!

Passport is to both prove your right to work and to start the CRB process as it can take months.

Yeah its pretty normal. Hr to see all documents , tour of the school, maybe some tests (putting things in order of dealing with things, I can't think of the name!) And am interview. You'll be rotated around doing things so will also spend time waiting around . Good luck!!

Its usual in any school support staff interview I've had, usually includes a tour of school, meeting staff, student panel, lunch, maybe a task of some kind. I've also had to take passport/exam certificates etc. I suppose it's so they have them and can crack straight on if you're offered the job.
I think it is a way of watching and seeing how you interact with others too.

You're probably going to be sitting around a lot waiting - they'll have all shortlisted applicants there at once, check all of all applicants' paperwork before you start probably, give you a tour together, introduce you to staff as a group (probably during the tour) and then leave you somewhere sitting waiting while they interview you in turn.

Passport is absolutely normal, they need to check the person who turns up for the interview is who they think it is.

I'm surprised about food and drink, but I suppose that could be a Covid precaution. I would normally expect them to provide water and a sandwich if you were staying over lunch.

Exams is a difficult role to staff correctly in schools, so I'm not surprised they want to be thorough. I am surprised there's no task though. They probably do want you to meet some staff informally to see if you'll be able to work together too.

Ok it sounds like it’s normal then. It’s all a bit of a shock coming from the private sector.

The lunch and drinks is due to Covid, they said they can’t offer anything.

First interview in a decade and I’m going to be stressed for the next week reading up on interview questions etc and now practically a 4-hour scrutiny Shock

Id documents to be copied at interview are usual as it speeds up dbs process. Would be surprised if there is no in-tray/it assessment though.
