Child free day in Cornwall

We’ve come away to Cornwall (staying just outside of Newquay) for the week with PILs, who have offered to babysit for the day on Friday so DH and I can chill/spend some time together. We rarely get a day to ourselves so really want to make the most of it, but no idea what to do with ourselves. It’s probably going to rain all day which makes it a bit tricky. A spa day would be lovely but think we might have left it a bit late to book anything.

Ideas please?

I honestly don't know what is open at the moment.

Here's a list of what I might have picked from in normal times:
Eden Project
Tate St Ives
Tea at the Gurnards Head
Ice cream at MooMaid Zennor
Truto Cathedral
Redruth (don't sneer) The little cinema there is adorable and the Craft Collective shop opposite is terrific
Geevor Mine (a bit yawn tbh but take binos and spot basking shark from the headland)
Talking of headland, Cape Cornwall
Godrevy wetsuits hire, for a wet day snorkelling the shallows
Tintagel new bridge is amaze

I'll shut up now

Thanks @FlibbertyGiblets, that’s really helpful!

Take on a section of the South West Coast Path, followed by cream tea or a pub meal!

Sorry that might not be so good in the rain, fab in great weather though!

I live in the far south west so would suggest ...Falmouth - with pubs, range of places to eat if it rains. Also maybe one of the slightly larger hotels has a spa. Mousehole if you fancy a fishing village - with pub (but wouldn't take all day). Sennen for a breezy walk on the beach and lunch. If you are not into walking you might need to do more than one place.

I'd go to one of the amazing local restaurants for lunch - Rick Stein, Paul Ainsworth, NathanOutlaw etc
Watergate Bay or the Scarlet Hotel for spa treatments
Lucky you!

Lucky you! We’d go out for breakfast, book bodyboarding in the morning (probably at Watergate Bay, doesn’t matter if it’s raining!), have a late lunch somewhere you might not take kids and round the day off with spa treatments wherever you can get in for them; try the Watergate Bay Hotel Spa if you’re that way (not too far from Newquay).

Thanks all!

We’re going to do Eden project with the little one tomorrow as I think she’ll quite enjoy it.
Spa day was my first choice for Friday but I’ve called every spa in a 20 mile radius and everywhere is booked up unfortunately, so we’re thinking a nice lunch in Padstow and a wander round the town if the weather isn’t too horrendous.

@TheMotherlode

In regards to spas, have you tried ...

The Cornwall hotel & spa
The Penventon
Bedruthan
Merchants manor
Clowance estate
St Michaels hotel & spa

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 19/05/2021 20:42

I'd go Tate St Ives & cafe lunch & walk on the beach when the weather breaks.

Poldark Mine? Carnglaze Slate Caverns? Get underground!!

TheMotherlode · 19/05/2021 20:57

@TulipVictory thanks! I’d tried a couple of those but hadn’t heard of the others, will ring around tomorrow and hopefully someone will be able to squeeze us in

I should probably have mentioned earlier on that I’m 5 months pregnant which rules out a few of the more adventurous activities.
