Texting work due to absence

Would it be unreasonable to text the mobile number I have been given for work absences rather than call it?.... I feel really rough and really don’t want to speak to anyone!

Depends what your policy says. Mine is specifically a call. Is there someone who can all on your behalf?

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 19/05/2021 06:52

If the policy states to call then call.

PersonaNonGarter · 19/05/2021 06:52

I have to speak to someone.

Unescorted · 19/05/2021 06:53

If your sickness policy says call then you have to call.

Sorry your are feeling rough.

ChatterMonkey · 19/05/2021 06:53

I have to call for an absence.

ThatsNotMyReindeer · 19/05/2021 06:53

Yes. A text can be missed, not delivered etc.

cupsofcoffee · 19/05/2021 06:56

Most absence policies require you to call, sorry!

Hope you feel better soon Thanks

Mistressiggi · 19/05/2021 06:57

You might find it's an answering machine

wunderlnst · 19/05/2021 07:00

Always call. If there is a voicemail leave one and call again.

RampantIvy · 19/05/2021 07:00

Sorry you are feeling unwell, but in most places you have to actually speak to someone.

Where I work we have specificlly been told not to text or email, but to ring before 9.30.

Fitforforty · 19/05/2021 07:01

You need to call unless you’re physically unable to.

Lanesra1886 · 19/05/2021 07:03

We text in

Arbadacarba · 19/05/2021 07:07

If you text, the chances are you'll get a call back and you'll be waiting for the phone to ring - best to call and get it over with, then you can forget about work and try to rest.

LEMtheoriginal · 19/05/2021 07:07

Officially call in but small team so would text or whatsapp, if not acknowledged then call, preferably before start of shift.

LubaLuca · 19/05/2021 07:12

It's frowned upon to text in sick instead of talking to someone in my workplace. It happens, but it's definitely better to phone and explain what's happening.

Annoy · 19/05/2021 07:32

Our policy just says contact.

So I’ve text, left a voicemail and dropped an email.

I’ve been there for 3yrs and never had to do this 🙈

We have to phone in, not allowed to text.

newnortherner111 · 19/05/2021 09:05

As you left a voicemail you phoned. I think phoning should be required.
