Fucking creepy men

I'm just so angry. Was just walking home from my first post lockdown dinner out. Like always did the risk assessment (which we shouldn't fucking have to do) thought about getting an uber but I hadn't managed to get out for a walk today and it's a route I know well and 90% busy well lit roads. Anyway, on one of the quieter roads a car slowed down alongside me (but didn't fully stop) and a man shouted out the window "someone is following you, someone is following you". It was such a clever thing to shout as although I was 99% certain he was being a creep and therefore I was safe now he'd driven off of course there was the 1% that thought maybe someone really is following me and felt uneasy all the way home. And the type of man who thinks that's funny, what other poor women is he coming into contact with on a daily basis. And I know it is completely not an eventful story - it isn't really a big deal in terms of even the shitty stuff men have done to me over the years but GRRR I'M JUST SO DONE WITH THIS SHIT.

Urgh! What an asshole! Sorry this happened to you OP.

Worktips · 18/05/2021 23:22

Can you please report this
He may be doing similar to others and his behaviour may escalate
In may help build up more information and evidence for the police
I used to just ignore behaviour like this but it’s important we all do our bit and report

ijwmtb · 18/05/2021 23:23

Really? I literally have no details, I can't even remember the colour of the car, let alone being on it enough to get his numberplate (too busy looking behind me to see if someone was actually about to grab me)

What an absolute fucking arse

UhtredRagnarson · 18/05/2021 23:27

Any idea what he looked like OP? You probably do remember the colour of his car but don’t realise it. You may know it was dark, like black or navy rather than red or silver.

HarryDavidj · 18/05/2021 23:27

Flowers ah what a bloody shame it marrred your night out OP.
What a pathetic loser.
If this is now a thing surely it is illegal because it’s harassment/intimidation?
I agree that his next step will be to start jumping out on women whilst masterbating. Refuse to call it the word beginning with F that rhymes with bashing because that has connotations of being comedic.
Which it really isn’t.

UhtredRagnarson · 18/05/2021 23:27

Also you know what time you were there and there may be some CCTV on that road or the road he turned off/onto from it.

ijwmtb · 18/05/2021 23:31

Thanks all. Yes, maybe you're right. I'll figure out if I can report to the met online, that way I feel like it will be less of a timewaste than calling up/asking to speak to someone if it's not the kind of thing they're interested in. I do know the time to the minute and you're right, it was a dark car and I know his rough age / ethnicity/ accent. I expect it's probably not something they can follow up on but I suppose it's not my call to decide it's not a big deal.

It will be part of a pattern of behaviour OP. Or the beginning of a pattern.
They certainly should log it somewhere.

Let’s hope they do.

Bless you, it must have been a shock.

ijwmtb · 19/05/2021 00:16

Report submitted. I just posted on here to rant really, so thank you for suggesting I should report it, as it really didn't occur to me as the kind of thing the police would be interested in. I feel better knowing I've taken action (even though I expect it will go nowhere). I guess it maybe will go into street harassment stats too now (if such things exist).

I've obviously (how sad that it is obvious) been catcalled etc. lots before. I can't explain why this has bothered me more than normal, it just felt like such a sinister thing to do, to single me out as a woman walking on a road alone at night and not only try and get my attention in the moment by yelling at me but to put fear into me of some other unknown man - like 'look at you, how dare you walk alone at night, don't you know you should be afraid, well I'll make you afraid then'. I live in SW London and, like many women, have felt quite impacted by recent events. I have felt a bit defiant/maybe empowered in continuing to walk when I normally would, so it was a bit jarring to have a direct reminder that there's a reason we're all afraid.

Christ, what an utter imbecile! Angry. It's terrifying what utter scum are walking free.
Good on you for reporting it.

Worktips · 19/05/2021 07:44

Well done OP
I used to just put up with this kind of behaviour and thought it was men being men and police wouldn’t be interested
But a friend who works in the police said they’re very interested and it may help with other cases
I’m so sick of these creepy men and at least am now empowered to report them
No harm in doing so and you never know what it may lead to
And I shouldn’t say this but perhaps don’t walk around in the dark even on well lit roads
It just seems like too much of a risk sadly

PegasusReturns · 19/05/2021 07:47

I’m sorry that marred your night - what a creep.

I don’t know whether the police action these matters but they bloody well ought to. If you shout stuff at women, harass and or intimidate them then you deserve the police turning up at your place of work; or walking you out of your house in front of your neighbours.
