What Tv channel does your reception ages child watch ?

My DS is in reception, still age 4 as he's one of the younger ones. He watches absolute drivel on his iPad, as he says CBeebies is for babies however he'll happily watch hey duvet when his sister is watching it for 10 minutes or so So I'm hoping to get him off the iPad and watch a few normal shows. We don't have any paid TV, but I can look into it if there's a channel that would work. He mainly likes quests, adventure type, ninja, swords, gun, Robin Hood type. What do your DC watch ?

CBBC is a natural progression from CBeebies, but at age 4 I’m surprised he doesn’t like it.

Wowcherarestalkingme · 18/05/2021 22:31

Usually nickjr or programmes like blippi and numberblocks on YouTube

Timeforsinging81 · 18/05/2021 22:34

Cbeebies still, he's very tired after school and often likes some of the baby programmes for quiet time. Octonauts, go jetters and paw patrol still a hit. Although he's started watching a few things on cbbc like the dengineers, Dennis the menace. Often watches a film on prime like despicable me, trolls.

Mainly people opening bags or something full of toys on YouTube Hmm
But on actual TV my girls (4 and 5) watch a lot of things on disney plus like Sophia the first and mickey mouse club house.
My 7 year old was really into pj masks, paw patrol and the thunderbirds at around that age.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 18/05/2021 22:38

Mine likes Netflix. Teen titans at the minute. Would I recommend it? No it drives me mad Grin he will still watch cbeebies depending what's on.

He'll sit through a film now tho. Shrek and moana are firm faves.

Stompythedinosaur · 19/05/2021 00:28

My dc both watched cbeebies at that age.

trytoignoreit · 19/05/2021 12:24

He'll watch paw patrol happily, but he really liked it age 2 -3, so I think he's bored of it now. I don't know why he seems to have this issue with things being for babies. I have no idea where he gets that line from ? School maybe ? He has a younger sister who's 18 months, but no other older siblings or cousins. His friends are all in his year. Some with older siblings are into playing on games consoles.

I will try CBBC then. Denis the menace sounds fun.

Odd squad is good and storybots, both on Netflix but vaguely educational. My DC (4&6) have enjoyed them.

Emmy93 · 19/05/2021 12:43

Does he like dragons? My son is 5 and loves how to train your dragon, on Netflix they do a series of it and also dragon riders is another one of my sons favourites, other then that he loves watching Ryan's toy review, vlad and nikitia or blippi on YouTube 🙄😂

trytoignoreit · 19/05/2021 13:08

@Emmy93 i tried the film with him about 6 month back and he said it was scary. I can't remember it being scary, but sometimes if something sad happens then he says it's scary because it up sets him.

Mine likes CBBC and some adult documentaries off of iplayer (things about trains, bake off, and occasionally things where they design houses).

He loves Bluey - used to just be on Disney+ but is now on iplayer too. Film wise he likes the Nativity Films and any of the despicable me/minion ones.

He's in reception, but 5 and fairly "old" for his age.

mogtheexcellent · 19/05/2021 13:25

DD6 is into Dragons on Netflix at the moment. The earlier dragons series is on prime and CbbC and she watched that from nearly 5 years old. She watches some things on CBBC (scooby Doo, horrible histories and danger mouse mostly). Her friends like blue peter. I love Horrible Histories so Im pushing that at teatime at the moment Blush.

At reception age my DD watched Cbeebies, just not the baby programmes like that fekker Bing. Things like Octonauts, numberblocks, waffle. In fact I never put any other channel on since she was a baby and she is now naturally progressing to CBBC. I just put episodes on from iPlayer rather than jam the channel on and let it all play in the background. This is due to the BBC pro-'you can identify as a willow leaf and anyone that disagrees is a bigot' stance.

She still likes number blocks and will watch on iplayer and she is ace at maths. The later series cover times tables etc which is year 2 at school. Interestingly they have Cbeebies in class still.

Other than that we watch films and series on Prime/netflix.

The earlier dragons series on Prime and CbbC is gentler/younger than the Netflix one imo.

mogtheexcellent · 19/05/2021 13:25

Camomila

Ah yes Bluey is on Cbeebies.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 19/05/2021 13:31

At that age mainly princess films, my little pony and Barbie films (which often weren't too bad). We were abroad so their TV viewing was via DVDs.

How about some of Lego stuff like Ninjago?

Timeforsinging81 · 19/05/2021 13:33

What ever you do, do not watch Waffle the Wonder dog!! The singing, the cheesy grown ups, the talking dog, the annoying theme song! Angry

Really wish DC would get into Horrible Histories though!

tentosix · 19/05/2021 13:35

Ryan on the iPad. A kid watching a kid playing with toys. Go figure, as they say

yoshiblue · 19/05/2021 13:51

My son is 7 but at age 4 was firmly watching CBeebies and nothing else. Even now he still watches some CBeebies, but tends to pick the shows he likes on iPlayer (there is a new kids mode) rather than watch what is shown on TV live.

For his age I'd recommend Numberblocks, Go Jetters, Octonauts, Swashbuckle, Bluey, Maddie programmes.

Netflix is also really good for kids and has a massive variety. He can have his own profile and as he watches it will tailor recommendations to other similar programmes (if you don't know how that works). Loads of really good things like Lego cartoons including Ninjago, Go Ninja, How to Train a Dragon, Super Monsters, Magic School Bus

NotSoLongGoodbye · 19/05/2021 13:55

CBeebies e.g. - hey duggee, octonauts,go getters . Problem with CBBC is that a lot of it is aimed at older kids but theres some good cross over series like the worst witch

NotSoLongGoodbye · 19/05/2021 13:56

Oh god, waffle - I've still got the bloody song in my head

cancancan · 19/05/2021 14:14

You tube... all you tube.
Annoying she has some favourite programs. Like horrid Henry but finds them on you tube so instead of watching a full episode she'll watch 15 minutes or 3 minute clips! Drives me mad.
She also doesn't like CBeebies anymore - she's 5.

I think she just likes it because she can easily find everything she wants in one place.

TheTeenageYears · 19/05/2021 15:24

Mine both loved Cbeebies at that age but there were no iPads at the time and we didn't have Sky. I much preferred it to C5 offering and both the kids were very happy with it for years. I'm pretty sure even as late teens now they would happily tune in for a good while. I could at least tell myself most of it was educational.

UndadsyDad · 19/04/2022 10:40

Hi, I have a child in reception and another one following her into reception at the same school in September. I wanted to invite any parents to check out Millennium TV for kids and family programmes. I must declare the interest that I founded Millennium TV in 2010 so I am afraid you can't take my word for it! www.mymillennium.tv/movie-genre/kids/
Enjoy and please leave any questions for more information.
