When scooping something like peanut butter/nutella out the jar do you scoop out with a spoon first then spread it with a knife or only use a knife for both scooping and spreading?

After 12years I've only just realised DH does it the first way and I'm questioning our whole relationship! That's just making more dishes to be cleaned Shock

A knife both scoops and spreads. No need for a spoon.

Pascha · 18/05/2021 22:01

I just use a knife and then lick it

isettled · 18/05/2021 22:02

@Pascha definitely.

The only time licking the knife is acceptable Grin

Yep just a knife!

gulliblestravels · 18/05/2021 22:04

spoon then knife

EwwSprouts · 18/05/2021 22:06

Just knife but got to be careful not to put toast crumbs in there.

Afternoonteaandicecream · 18/05/2021 22:06

Spoon then knife, then if I want more I don't put crumbs from the bread back in the jar as just use the spoon again.

daisydalrymple · 18/05/2021 22:06

Just a knife most definitely! A spoon would be too weird for me. Just like I would only use a knife for butter or Philadelphia etc.

year3k · 18/05/2021 22:08

A spoon and then spread with the back of the spoon

BramStoker · 18/05/2021 22:09

I just use the knife to scoop and spread

Would only use a spoon if I wasn't bothering with the bread and contents were going straight from jar to gob!

BackforGood · 18/05/2021 22:09

Knife only

(Same with marmite Wink )

debbrianna · 18/05/2021 22:12

Knife in, knife out and Spread.

Veryverycalmnow · 18/05/2021 22:12

Spoon then back of spoon here too. Lick the spoon. No need for mr knife unless butter is involved.

scrivette · 18/05/2021 22:15

Knife for peanut butter but always a spoon then knife for jam.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 18/05/2021 22:23

Spoon, straight in the mouth. Problem solved and no crumbs.

If being put on toast etc then just a knife, tip it towards you so you get a good chunk and lick it after, tis the only way.

Letsplough · 18/05/2021 22:25

Just a knife too

converseandjeans · 18/05/2021 22:26

Just a knife - but my Mum always puts out extra cutlery like spoons for various things.

Idontknowanymore05 · 18/05/2021 22:29

Yep just a knife haha.

longtompot · 18/05/2021 22:29

A knife for scooping and spreading. I would be rethinking my whole relationship with my dh if he did this I wouldn't
I do use a Pampered Chef narrow silicone spatula to get the last of it out of the jar though! and then just give it to the dog to keep her entertained for half an hour, and me when I can see her teefers through the side and her tongue right at the base of the jar Grin

Justmuddlingalong · 18/05/2021 22:30

Anything in a jar, peanut butter, jam or pickle etc, I use a spoon to scoop and a knife to spread. DP just uses the knife, unless he knows I'm watching him.

Brazilianut · 18/05/2021 22:32

Spoon to scoop and spread jam or palet knife for PB/Nutella.

getyourfreakon · 18/05/2021 22:32

Knife

AlCalavicci · 18/05/2021 22:33

Just a knife her too but when ever I open a new jar of jam marmite marmalade peanut butter etc ( be gone eith your Nuttela) i split the jar , i put about a quater of it into a clean jar.
And use the quater jar first topping it up when it becomes empty that way it never gets too contaminated and and if I happened to throw the jar on the floor like I did with a jar of jam last week I don't lose it all.

eurochick · 18/05/2021 22:38

Just a knife.

I use a spoon for jam though - it always slithers off a knife.

isettled · 18/05/2021 22:46

Quite a few spooners...it was a revelation today when I witnessed it I always wondered why there were so many spoons on the drainer

It gets worse...he uses a teaspoon not even a dessert spoon.
I'm clearly greedy I just take out roughly what I think which is almost always too much and any leftovers I lick off the knife!
