An hour from Hull - weekend away?

I need help - looking to book a weekend away for me & DH. Needs to be an hour from Hull max for childcare practicalities. Preferably south of Hull.
Not York, Harrogate, Ripon, Sheffield, Skegness or Leeds.

Is Lincoln a good idea?

Spent a week near Lincoln. Was lovely. A nice place to wander round. Some nice restaurants and the cathedral was worth a visit.

Oh that sounds promising. I'll look at hotels

Lincoln is lovely! Small, but lovely.
The cathedral is stunning, if you catch a tour it is always much more interesting than wandering around yourself unless you’re a church buff. I also found the Victorian prison interesting, - incorporates elements of the panopticon model if I remember rightly.

There are some good independent shops including my favourite tea shop.
It’s not a thrill a minute but it’s very charming and a good place to wander and take multiple pit stops in excellent cafes. The Jew’s House was I good restaurant last time I visited, but that will be a decade ago.

We also had a weekend in Lincoln a few years ago and also found the cathedral, and the area of the city around it, interesting. We stayed in a hotel with a lovely garden just outside Lincoln (can't remember exactly where, sorry). I remember some lovely countryside too. It helped that the weather was beautiful.

Lincoln is good for a weekend. You really want to stay mostly ‘Uphill’ for the cathedral and castle, plus the area known as the Bail, which is good for places to eat and drink. There are also a couple of galleries, I think the Usher has a good reputation.

If you do venture down Steep Hill, you’ll find a fairly typical range of high street shops, though the Strait and Stonebow are nice enough, and you can walk along the Glory Hole (I kid you not) to Brayford Pool, which has more food/drink options. If you can’t face the walk back up Steep Hill, there’s a walk and ride option.
