Teenagers on holiday together

Hello. At what age would you let your teenagers go on holiday without an adult? And would you set any rules apart from obviously no drinking or doing anything stupid! (Camping/trekking holiday in the same country and about an hour away from us). Thanks!

It would depend massively on who else was going and how the group interacted a a whole. But probably 16+

17 in the UK (if anywhere would take the booking) and 18 abroad.

When they are old enough to book the accommodation themselves.

Lots go to festivals at the end of Y11, but that's obviously not happening this year.

So long as they were easy to reach in an emergency, end of Y11

But of course , you really have no say in what they do post 18

Sorry I don't know what age that is! DS is nearly 17 and wants to go with a group of friends from scouts (not an official trip). I think I'll let him as he is normally quite sensible.

16/17.

I went to Magaluf etc from being 17. DD had her first unaccompanied trip with friends at 16. Is she (or was I 😏) particularly sensible? No not really but i trust her enough to believe that she’d contact me if in dire straits that she couldn’t figure out herself. It’s part of growing up. Spreading your wings, getting into scrapes, it’s how you learn.

Dd never asked to, but she left home when she was 17 anyway.
She still hasn't been on holiday with her BF!

Me and my friends went on a hiking/youth hostelling holiday in the Lakes after our GCSEs. One of our group wasn't allowed to go (she was the youngest, so not quite 16 at that point). In retrospect, I'm suprised my parents let me (they were quite strict), and having talked about it with them since they said they were quite nervous, but knew I was old enough and sensible enough really.

But I now have an almost 15 year old DSS - I would want to see him doing a LOT of growing up in the next year before I thought he was safe to do the same!

But 16/end of Year 11 seems reasonable - they can leave home then, so need to grow up an be trusted at some point.

Are they old enough to book themselves?

Lots of places won't allow a group of under 18s

Apparently they are booking it at the moment - although DS seems to have delegated this part. Hmm We'll see what happens. Thanks everyone!
