Applied for two jobs at same company

Hi there
I’m being made redundant from a job so applying for positions elsewhere. I need to pay for my mortgage so I am applying to as many roles as I can.
A fairly junior manager role has come up at a competitor so I applied. It appears the company has had to re-advertise for this position a second time which is surprising as it’s a fairly junior position and I’d have expected many applicants. Then a couple days later a more senior position, more suited to my experience and skills, on the same team came up at the same company and I applied.
HR called and sounded very enthusiastic and invited me in for an interview for the junior role. I explained I had also applied for the senior position (deadline for applicants is still some way off) and how that would work. The HR person said I can discuss this with the hiring manager at the interview.
I have a feeling that I will be offered the junior role as I am more than experienced and especially as they’ve had to re-advertise. I also expect many, many applicants will go for the senior position.
The junior role really is quite junior and I want to be progressing in my career at this stage.
At the same time, I need a job! Bit unsure and confused at the mo.
Especially on how to play the interview as I don’t want to come across too experienced for it, but at the same time, I don’t want to run myself out of a chance for the senior role.
Thoughts welcome.

I’d go for it having a junior interview might prep you for the senior position.....

I once went for 2 very different positions within a blue chip company externally got both of them ..... then picked the job I preferred 🤩

You might as well try 🤞🤞🤞 or even Neg better pay / more responsibility if you only end up with the junior role . Good luck

No advice really, but to be honest and open about your skills, qualifications and experience at the junior interview in order that you can't then be accused of exaggerating your experience if you get an interview for the more senior role and have previously downplayed your skills.

I agree that being honest is probably the best idea.
If they ask, you can always frame it as you are really enthusiastic about the company, so you applied for the junior position before the other one was advertised, but actually your experience & skillset mean you'd be a great fit for the more senior position too.

I once had an interview for a lower level job. After the interview they said they really liked me but thought I'd get bored in the role. A few months later they called and offered me an interview for a more senior role, which I got. So they won't necessarily automatically offer you the junior role, just because they've been looking for a while, as they're more likely to retain staff if they're in a role at the right level.
