What is your favourite game to take on holiday/camping/to the pub?

With holiday season looking a little different this year I'm starting to think about what to pack.

We'll be travelling around the north of England and Scotland with two kids age 7 and 9.

If the weather is poor we will probably end up in a pub or back in the hotel/caravan playing games. We've got exploding kittens and dobble so looking for similarly fun but compact games that won't get us thrown out of the pub Grin

Thanks

I love Monopoly Deal.

Mastermind is very popular here. And Connect Four.

Dinkydody · 18/05/2021 00:52

Rapido is great fun, a bit like Pictionary with play dough.

BritInAus · 18/05/2021 01:25

Blokus is fantastic!

Gothichouse40 · 18/05/2021 03:37

Battleships and Mastermind, also Cluedo and Connect4. We also love dominoes and have a set of animal dominoes.

Merlotmum85 · 18/05/2021 05:52

Zombie dice and ok play (square game like connect 4) worked for us on a caravan holiday last year!

5 second rule although the timer noise would be annoying to anyone sitting near you!

reluctantbrit · 18/05/2021 08:03

Yhatzee
Uno
TopTrumps
Rummikub
Shut the box
normal. set of cards for snap or other games
Cobra Paws
Dobble
Brainbox
Ludo (we just pack the board and put the dice and figures in a small bag)

We try to stick with card games for pubs and things with dice for hotel/holiday let.

"5 second rule although the timer noise would be annoying to anyone sitting near you!"

A big no to annoying noises. After all this time out of the pubs I doubt anyone would thank me for that!

I loved battleships when j was little. Me and my brother played it together hundreds and hundreds of times together. Then as a family we'd play cards....trump's and rummy etc.

When on our honeymoon me and DH played cards a lot too...Onaf i think the game was called.

At my henny we played dobble and it was crazy! We were all screaming our heads off trying to get a snap lol

Horehound · 18/05/2021 08:21

What about beetle drive too?

idontlikealdi · 18/05/2021 08:23

My kids love Smart Games especially the star one - we have two sets and they race each other.

massistar · 18/05/2021 08:33

Bananagrams is brilliant for older kids and adults.

averythinline · 18/05/2021 09:08

Gubz, port royal , love letters are probably our most played...
Skull is fun and quick...although we don't like dobble-
Fluxx is good as well we have the space version and have given many times as gift...

Blokus is fantastic!
Agree!!!

Sporkle quizzes are good too (online).

We have a caravan, so have collected a lot of travel games over the last few years. Ones we have are: exploding kittens plus expansions, uno, sushi go, monopoly deal, the card version of cluedo (works well), fluxx, backpacker, travel rummikub, hive (sort of like chess, 2 player), rush hour 1 player), bananagrams, storycubes, timeline (history game, our kids really like it!), onirim. Sounds like a lot actually!

This is a useful summary list of ideas, it says for adults but most are good for kids too:

Uno, Quirkle, Blockus, Monopoly Deal, Blockus.

Rather than Yahtzee, we like King of Tokyo. Its similar to Yahtzee but themed around cool characters and has various power up cards. My 7 yo loves it. You have a few bits and pieces, but doesn't take up too much space.

purplecorkheart · 18/05/2021 09:42

Please avoid connect four in the pub. It is more noisy than people realise and is irritating to other people around.

BettyUnderswoob · 18/05/2021 09:55

I also have a caravan and many of the above games. Another couple not yet mentioned are There's a Moose in the House, and The Genius Square.
