Best hobbies to meet new people?

I recently moved to a new area and I have no local friends. I love doing things with other people (I’d rather do an OK activity with people I like than a great activity alone). What hobbies can you recommend that are sociable and good for potentially making new friends?

Board game nights or rpg nights at a games shop that hosts games nights. There are also the ramblers or other walking clubs if you'd rather get outside, or if you are female then maybe even the WI?

I've met my friends in a new area through volunteering, I'm a guide leader and I do food bank stuff/zero waste stuff. Things that are more "hobbish" I've joined a local gardening group for a community garden which is about growing food and give to people in the community. Also joined a CrossFit gym where everyone is really friendly so met people through that although wouldn't say we are at friends stage yet. I'm in my late 20s so it been nice to do some different things.

A good running club - my old one had different groups for all different levels of runner and they were all really friendly.

Also beekeeping! Beekeepers tend to be really nice people in my experience and very accepting of new people, willing to teach and share knowledge etc.

@DinosaurOfFire thanks for the suggestions. I like the idea of a walking club. Do they tend to have a good mix of ages? I’m early 40s so would ideally like to meet people of a similar age.

@Lyricallie I should find a friendly gym to join. I need to get fit!

My friend is also in the WI and loves it. Some groups are more youthful then others. Lots of great interesting ladies to chat to when doing cool stuff!

The WI always makes me think of my granny. It sounds like I need to rethink my feelings on it. Could be a good place to start.

I’d say running or some sort of volunteering-litter picking walks.
Maybe netball

My local walking clubs are on meet-up.com They seem to have a good mix of ages from 30s to early 60s

DinosaurOfFire · 17/05/2021 20:45

@SorryAboutTheTypos My info is out of date by about a decade, but when I worked in an outdoor shop it depended very much on the specific group- in the city I lived in the ramblers were usually older but other walking groups tended to have a mix of ages from late teens up to people in their 60's and 70's.

I’ve just met some lovely people when I joined a local boot camp in the park.
I didn’t go with the intention of meeting people, I went for the fitness, but it has been great for getting to know other people.
