My ds struggles to hold his pencil comfortably and his teacher has recommended he uses a grip for his pencil.

Ive seen many different options online. Can anyone recommend one they have used and been successful with.

Can the teacher not give you a school one? I’ve got loads in a drawer and would happily lend one out for use at home. If not, there’s a few different ones out there, they all seem to work pretty well. For a 5yo you might want to try one his fingers actually fit in rather than one that just goes round the pencil IYSWIM. Make sure it fits the type of pencil he normally uses as there are bigger ones available for chunkier pencils if that’s what he uses.

After buying several, the best solution was actually to wrap an elastic band around the pencil and telling DD to hold the elastic with thumb and index so that it wouldn't slide (which it wouldn't because it was tight but that was how she understood it) .
I put the elastic 3 cm roughly form pencil tip.

I used one of those elastic band around asparagus/ broccolini , so thicker (and purple and she was purple-obsessed)

It was just to teach where to position her fingers and it worked

As teacher of that age I would recommend this one. It really helps get the hand position right.

Start by asking the teacher for guidance.

A quick Amazon search shows a multitude. I would avoid the round ones with ridges up the barrel and the mini ones (you need to be very aware of the correct finger placement to use the minis), but the rest look fine - which works best for your little one is personal preference.
