Tell me about your Lego storage

We have a lot of Lego and are likely to acquire more. I am forever finding bits of it around the house and it is driving me mad! At the moment I’ve put it into boxes with clicking lids (due to small toddler) but that’s clearly not a sustainable solution.

So - on this rainy Sunday morning - enlighten me and tell me about your clever Lego storage solutions please Smile

We have two tall really useful drawer towers.

I dream of a Lego room. Plus a display case. Instead we just have Lego EVERYWHERE. I even find it in the bathroom and my pockets.

Keep kit instructions somewhere safe. Original boxes only useful if you plan on selling stuff on. Can't be bothered with that faff!

I'm hoping to have a dedicated Lego in the conservatory when we finish decorating. DH wants to put a shelf up around the top of the living room for display purposes. (AFOLs!)

When our loft extension is finished the office will became DH Lego room. I’ll only go in if I need the printer 😂

We have some Lego draws I picked up in Morrison’s but my favourite is clear make up draws, they are great for Lego and little toys.

I sort it by type rather than colour, I find that when they are playing with lego, the right size and shape is more important to them than the colour, so this makes it easier to find stuff.
It never stays neatly sorted for more than a fortnight though, then the drawers (trofast unit) are all muddled up until I have a spare afternoon to sort it all again.
As a child, I had one of the drawstring mats and I think that is the best way to store and play with lego.

We have been through various permutations! Now, with an 11yo & a 9yo, we have

  • two tall Trofast with mainly shallow tray with each tray having a particular colour or particular type of brick (so black standardish bricks are together but things like wheels & steering wheels go in the "vehicles" tray and things like doors go in the "buildings" tray). We also have a couple of the deeper trays for things like base plates;
  • Billy bookcase with half glass doors. Bottom half (solid doors) has arts & crafts. Top half has finished lego models in displays
  • a separate playroom which I can shut the door on and a deal that, if the Lego stays on the rug, it can be left as it is for 2 - 3 weeks at a time until I break and go in & hoover
Well, that's the theory. There is still lego in every room in the house. But it has brought them so much fun & entertainment.

We have a playmat/giant bag thing with a drawstring. Easy to spread the bits out to find the brick you need, even easier to tidy it away afterwards.

This sort of thing but I made our one myself (really easy if you have a sewing machine).

Some really good options here - thank you all!

britnay and AliceMcK I think those sorts of drawers are probably what I’m looking for

Or millions of Really Useful boxes Grin

If you sort by type of brick then its easier to choose a colour from within that type than the other way around.

These rainbow drawers suit us, all colour coordinated and attractive looking. Worked better with my eldest who had basic Lego and city sets. My youngest is more into the star wars and robot big build things so it doesn't work as well and he keeps most of the models made up and displayed on IKEA Billy shelves.

When my son was 3-4 we had one of those circular lego mats with a drawstring (as shown upthread). Lego pieces have exponentially grown since then so we have 3 Really Useful shallow boxes with lids. Argos do them on a triple offer.

I like the Really Useful drawers but can't be bothered sorting them into colours.

We also have a separate people box BTW.

Hi sorry I have only just seen this. We have a shop near us called JTF there are a few dotted around and we had them from there
