I think someone has flung cat/small dog poo around my back yard.

(Not a poo troll. Happy for MNHQ to confirm if necessary.)

Well, let’s say, I certainly don’t think an animal has put it there.

There is lots of it. Not in a pile like an animal would do but dotted all over the yard and on the terrace like it’s been flung. And it’s a collection of poos. Not all from the same “movement”. Possibly not all from the same animal. Some lighter, some darker. The location of my yard means whoever has done it has either sought out my house, found the back entrance through a lane, come down through my garden, down my steps and flung it onto my yard. (Diagram included Wink) Or one of my neighbours has done it. Obvious suggestion would be a neighbour. But I don’t know why either would do this. I have cats and they do go outside. They don’t go into neighbour 2 garden at all as they have a dog. They do go in neighbour 1s garden to sleep under the hedge but so do the dozen other cats on this street and he also looks after his friends cats too on occasion which go in his garden so if there is poo there it could be from any one of the cats around. Mine also use a litter tray in the house and without wanting to be graphic- the poo in the yard is bigger than their poo. I’ve lived here several years and neighbour has never mentioned the cats being a problem. It would be difficult for neighbour 2 to have done it from their side too as where some of it is wouldn’t be possible from where they would have to throw it. Perhaps there is a magic poo fairy that delivers gifts that nobody wants? Confused

I’m thinking of getting a camera up to catch the culprit if it happens again.

You can tell them that if you logged (ha ha) it as an official dispute they would have to declare it if they ever sell their house.

I think that’s true, I may be wrong.

burritofan · 14/05/2021 18:04

Initially thought you were being faecestious but the photos have convinced me. Can you put in a trampoline so the next lot bounces back to the flinger?

Quincie · 14/05/2021 18:10

Can't you our netting or something along your fence to keep your cat out of their garden

Jongleurterre · 14/05/2021 18:13

I can’t understand this level of pettiness.

By all means scoop it up and put in a bucket and knock next door and say that’s the amount you’ve collected over x days and could the cat owner invest in something to help keep the cat out of the garden etc.

Just flinging it back over is asking for retaliation and doesn’t solve the problem.

UhtredRagnarson · 14/05/2021 18:21

@Jongleurterre

I wish I hadn’t asked for poo pictures.

*Puts down Toffee Crisp. Sad

Sorry @Jongleurterre, but you did ask! Grin

It wouldn’t be possible due to all the different levels and walls/fencing with gaps etc. It’s a rented house so I can’t change any of those.

Hedgehog poo is full of crunched snailshell. Yours is not hedgehog poo. My money is on loud angry neighbour and I'd get the cameras and a security light, too. That should deter any repeat flingings.

People can be so petty and spiteful.

Tal45 · 14/05/2021 18:34

I reckon it's the dog owner, you might think the cats don't go into his because of the dog but unless the dog is outside all the time I bet they do, especially at night. As it sounds like there are loads of cats he's probably sick of it and taking it out on you.

Suzi888 · 14/05/2021 18:34

I think a neighbour has thrown it over too.

It’s possible, anything is possible, but I really don’t think it’s them. Their dog is out all day and night and if you could see the yard and where some of the poo was it would be impossible for it to land there from their garden. They have a higher wall and my shed is in the way. Unless they threw it up really high and hoped for the best Grin

Changed my username to confess that in a past life, well a couple of decades ago, I did fling poo over the neighbour's fence without warning. I lived in a basement flat so had no view of what their garden might be like, where it might have landed, or whether they were quietly sunbathing at the time. Neighbour came round pretty angry and asked what the hell I was doing. I said it was his dogs' poo and I was just returning it. He said they don't go in your garden. I said they do I've seen them. He told me I should get a gate. I told him I rent so I couldn't, and that he should keep his dogs in the garden or on a lead in the street. He cursed me. I told him that if he keeps his dogs out of my garden I won't have any ammo. Dogs ceased visiting.

In hindsight it was perhaps a little feisty of me, but it was highly effective in saving me the rage of repeatedly discovering dog poo with the lawnmower.

Even I wouldn't be that feisty about cats though.

Quincie · 14/05/2021 19:01

What about a rampant Randy fox or two - foxes round here def mark their territory

DogsSausages · 14/05/2021 19:04

It all looks different, are there foxes and rabbits around, bloody weird though. It would definitely put up a camera.

UhtredRagnarson · 14/05/2021 19:10

Not fox poo either. I don’t think? (New photo)

I do feel for people having to tolerate cat poo in their gardens. I get it, it’s horrible. My cats have litter trays indoors which they do use every day for poo and pee but I’m sure they probably go outside too. Over winter they essentially become indoor cats voluntarily but as it warms up they venture outside for a while every day. Which I know is also when people are venturing outside to use their garden. Neighbour doesn’t use his garden at all or keep it mowed or tidy. He has junk stacked all over his yard. Of course that doesn’t mean he should have to tolerate cat poo though.

Box them up in an empty chocolate box, tie with pretty bow and leave on doorstep of person you most likely think is the culprit.

I’m going to get a security camera. If there is any repeat behaviour I will keep this suggestion in mind.

Once a garden becomes a neighbourhood cat hang out, said cats start getting territorial and commence competitive pooing. We had it in our garden for a while after we lost our cat and his territory was up for grabs.

We ended up cat proofing to keep them out, we were getting piles of poo likes yours about every other day - it was awful.

My guess is this is happening in your neighbour's garden and they're assuming it's down to your cats.

wildeverose · 14/05/2021 19:21

That is cat poo as said above, in various stages of decomp. You've been hit by a poo vandal.

Oh I didn’t realise this was a thing!!! I wonder if it’s because they’re all starting to go outside again in the good weather? There are some pretty first Toms around here.
