My 2 year old refuses his vitamins

hogu · 14/05/2021 16:35

I've tried putting them in his water, milk, porridge and juice but he refuses them all.
We are using the well baby liquid.
If there any other with no taste? Or anything else I could try?

Jelly format? So that they are like sweets

pickingdaisies · 14/05/2021 16:37

Does he need them, or are you giving them to be certain he's getting them, iyswim?

dementedpixie · 14/05/2021 16:37

Don't think jelly ones tend to be for under 3s
Spray vitamins?

I used the jelly vitamin sweets that say age 3+ from 2 just obviously stayed close by when he had them with the choking risk.

nimbuscloud · 14/05/2021 16:37

Does he need them? Have you been advised to give them by a medical professional?
If not I wouldn’t bother.

Moonshine11 · 14/05/2021 16:38

I use the Haliborange Multivitamin Liquid and mix it in his yoghurt. Never been refused.

dementedpixie · 14/05/2021 16:39

It's advised every child under age 5 should supplement vitamins A, C and D (babies still having over 500mls of infant formula don't need extra vitamins)

NuffSaidSam · 14/05/2021 16:39

If he's nearly three I'd switch to the jelly sweet ones.

Pinkblueberry · 14/05/2021 16:40

Agree with pp asking if he needs them really - my ds got diarrhoea from it so we switched to just Vit D instead. I don’t know if that tastes different but it’s a much smaller amount and maybe easier to disguise in some juice or milk.

Kpo58 · 14/05/2021 16:41

I just use the syringe from the Calpol and just squirt it in the mouth. Then they got a cup of milk. They quickly learnt that if they took the vitamins quicky they then got their milk faster.

TheOpportuneMoment · 14/05/2021 16:44

Try the Healthy Start drops. It's only 5 drops a day so small amounts but has all the recommended A, C and D. They taste a bit like banana. DS is two and hated all others but will have these just off a spoon, but more often mixed with his milk. You can buy them in Superdrug.

superduster · 14/05/2021 16:44

I would speak to a pharmacist to check and then give your little one the jelly sweet ones instead.

TheBestSpoon · 14/05/2021 16:46

Second vote for Haliborange - DS eats it from the spoon!

hogu · 14/05/2021 16:49

He's 2 and I'm pretty certain he wouldn't take the sweets either, he doesn't like sweets!
I don't mind forcing medicine down him occasionally when needed but would rather not have a daily battle with vitamins if I can help it.

Everything seems to be a battle at the moment 🙈

Everyone in the uk needs vitamin D! But if he won't take vitamins, does he eat eggs, breakfast cereal or fromage frais? Leave it a few days then try something else. My kids enjoy the halibob orange, they are chewable (and contain calcium for my child who doesn't have milk). Suitable from 3.

dementedpixie · 14/05/2021 16:53

Nature's Aid says it only 1ml they need to take of theirs

passmethemilk · 14/05/2021 18:14

They all need vitamins Shock. What happened to a healthy diet and sunshine?

Reinventinganna · 14/05/2021 18:16

Surely if he’s getting a well balanced and varied diet he doesn’t need a vitamin?
It’s not a battle that I would choose to fight.

dementedpixie · 14/05/2021 18:18

Depends where you live. For a lot of the year ( October to start of April I think) you will not make vitamin D through the sun as the wavelength is not sufficient. Lots of people are deficient and its hard to get vitamin D especially from food.

Nhs advises A, C and D supplements until age 5.

DappledThings · 14/05/2021 18:18

Mine always liked the Abidec syrup. Clamoured for it most days!

Beeeeeeeeeeeeeep · 14/05/2021 18:19

Advised by who?
dementedpixie · 14/05/2021 18:21

NHS advises it

Smartiepants79 · 14/05/2021 18:25

Confused I have never supplemented my children’s diet with extra vitamins.
They have had a varied diet with plenty of fruit and veg and lots of outside time and they’re growing and healthy.
If they eat well and have outside time I can’t see why they need extra vitamins as routine? Weird

hogu · 15/05/2021 21:13

@dementedpixie Thank you, I'm going to get that one and hope I can hide it in something!
