Can someone explain what happens if I am put in the limited capability for work category financially - it seems i will get no extra money and just my single person rate (and if successful the housing costs element too), is this correct? I am singed off by my GP and unable to work but unsure how I supplement the "working" part of my income?

Also - how does it work for limited capability for work related activities? This group seem to have an additional 346 odd pounds per month.

Does it literally go from no financial support to 346 pounds per month if you cannot work? How is the scoring different between the two groups?

I am so, so stressed and confused so any input would be gladly appreciated please. My work coach says she doesn't understand as the system has changed so much.

If you were awarded LCW you get nothing unfortunately but if you qualified for LCWRA you would recieve £354 per month.
I would suggest that once you have your medical either on the phone (due to covid which is more likely) I would explain this to the medical assessor that you are unable to work and tell them what your illness is and how it effects you.
I sincerely hope that you get sorted or have already as it is stressful and can take quite a long time unfortunately.

Be warned it took my mom 9 months of providing sick notes and having to go to the job centre nearly every week (with really bad arthritis)to take part in courses before she got her assessment over the phone.

If you get LCW after your work capability assessment you won't be expected to provide fit notes or look for work, you may need to do some courses in preparation for getting back to work. If you do get a job even part time you will keep more of your earnings before it starts to reduce your UC income as you will have a "work allowance".

If you are put in LCWRA group you get additional money from UC. You may want to consider other health related benefits like Personal Independence Payment if you have a long term health issue.

Universal Credit has similar rules to Employment and Support Allowance. Having LCW or LCWRA depends on what activities your client finds difficult. The relevant activities are set in lists of 'descriptors'. There are separate lists for LCW and LCWRA.

For LCW, your client gets points for each descriptor that applies to them. They need a total of at least 15 points from the table of LCW descriptors.

There aren't points for LCWRA. Instead, your client has LCWRA if at least one of the table of LCWRA descriptors applies to them.
