Small gift for three year old?

This weekend I'm visiting a friend I haven't seen since the pandemic started. She's recently had a baby so I'm going to get some baby clothes and a few bits, but also want to get a little something for her 3yo. Any suggestions?

Little bit of Duplo? Keeps them busy while you chat

MiloAndEddie · 12/05/2021 21:26

Puzzle or those no mess crayola colouring sets

TheDoctorDances · 12/05/2021 21:27

Snap cards / board game, stickers, colouring book.

A sticker book is your answer

Play dough set

Melissa & Doug sticker activity set £4.99 Amazon.

Choose a theme from about 7 different types and there are different backgrounds and 200 or so stickers- all reusable.

Got mine one for holiday as all kids that age seem to love stickers. Plus it's a sit still activity Wink

Fivemoreminutes1 · 13/05/2021 04:36

I was going to suggest the Melissa and Doug reusable sticker pads.
Giant floor puzzle
Bubble wand
You Choose book

It’s nice of you to think about the older sibling of the baby too.
Perhaps you could offer your friend to take them out to go to the toy shop and choose something from there themselves?
Your friend gets a bit of rest and it’s nice for the 3 year old as well, as probably most of the attention was recently given to the baby.

Sweetener12 · 13/05/2021 05:36

What LaBellina said. Taking kids to a toy shop sounds like a great idea. If your friend is up to it, you can set a home photo shoot for them (or even book a photographer if your friend agrees), and then make a photo collage or a family slideshow with those pictures and give them to her. Looking at these photos several years later when kids are older would be fun! Here are some poses ideas, if you are doing it on your own- joannewithersphotography.co.uk/family-portraits-home/

I had my DD in February and I was amazed by how many people thought of my DS as well when sending/dropping off gifts. Its very kind of people and you. My DS is 4 and received lego, giant garden bowling set, clothes, craft sets and sticker books.
I do agree with @LaBellina though. The best gift we/he got was being taken out to the local park for a couple of hours with a friend. He got to do something that didn’t revolve around the new baby and got some time to blow off steam.

Water magic book
Stomp rocket
Flyer glider aeroplane

OP asked for some suggestions for a little gift. She wants to catch-up with a friend she hasn’t seen in over a year and meet the new baby.
It’s an entirely different proposition to take a three year old out on her own! She has said the toddler hasn’t seen her for more than a year. And people are saying she should take out this child to a toy shop and get him to choose a gift? 😂

Cocogreen · 13/05/2021 07:21

Play doh and a couple of animal shape biscuit cutters.

Sunshine1235 · 13/05/2021 07:26

Sticker books always go down well and doesn’t matter if they’ve had the same one before.

I wouldn’t let a friend I hadn’t seen in a year take my three year old out to a toy shop! 😂 if you want to offer your friend a break and the 3yr old is happy you could always sit and do the sticker book with them downstairs while your friend rests but I’m in the same position as your friend and I know I’d be beside myself with excitement to have a friend visiting who I could chat to and wouldn’t be interested in long naps

Kinsters · 13/05/2021 07:29

You could ask his mum what snacks he likes/is allowed. A sticker book and eg a packet of animal biscuits would be a real treat.

Why not ? The OP can do with this suggestions as she likes. It’s not up to you to decide for her if it’s a bad idea or not. We’re merely giving suggestions and trying to be helpful, apparently that’s silly according to you Hmm
sylbunny · 13/05/2021 07:34

I've just had a baby and my eldest is 3. Some presents she received were:

Matching outfit to the baby! 🥰
Sticker books
Colouring books
Peppa pig magazine
Crayons

Anything that is an activity will go down well with mum as it distracts the older one for a while! Stickers are like magic crack for toddlers

sylbunny · 13/05/2021 07:36

Also do not take the child to a toy shop! Unless you are super nanny, you will be dealing with a toddler having a melt down because you won't buy them whatever big shiny thing they saw!

changeuser · 13/05/2021 07:43

Went from a sticker book to booking a professional photo shoot in one page 😂
I am sorry I know everyone is entitled lot give their option but the professional photographer made me laugh

SouthOfFrance · 13/05/2021 11:07

This thread has escalated hasn't it? Pretty sure when the Op asked for present ideas they weren't thinking of arranging a big photoshoot with Joanne/Sweetener Grin

Ifixfastjets · 13/05/2021 16:16

Washable pens or pencils and a colouring book always go down well here.
Same with the latest cbbc/peppa/ whatever magazine.
A small soft toy, if you want more of a keepsake?
Our post office sells those huge pictures. Made of card, drawn on with felt/fluffy black stuff. Comes with a set of felt pens for a quid.
Every kid I know loves these. Even the teenagers will colour with smaller kids on one of those.
Do you know what "equipment " he kid has?
Mine loved story CDs at3. Had CD player in her room, so nobody else was forced to listen to bob the builder on repeat!
Dressing up outfit ?
Garden toy? Pop up tent?
Decorate it yourself gingerbread man/lady/person.
Neeps them busy for a bit and they eat the result!
Big brother/sister tee shirt?

littlepieces · 14/05/2021 17:14

Thanks everyone, great suggestions that I'll keep for future too! I ended up getting a Hey Duggee activity sticker book. I know they like Duggee.
