Can’t bend my finger - surely does not need a doctor?

Quite abruptly last night realised I’ve got a lot of pain in right index finger . Mainly around the bottom . Finger a bit swollen and red . Can’t bend it - literally won’t move down far enough and when I try to force it get pain and tingling down into my hand . Funny clicking feel too at the bottom joint . Can’t make a fist or grip with it . Not sure if I’ve somehow over extended it or something - have hyper mobility and dyspraxia .

Have got a big uni exam today (typed thank God because I can’t write) or I’d ring GP: surely they’ll just say ice and rest ? Have got strapping stuff and a tubigrip so thoughts about strapping to next finger for 24h or so?

I think you need to get it checked or at least ring your GPs. At my GPS you will have triage phone call with a nurse.

Sounds like trigger finger but you can try taping it for a few days and see how it goes, if it doesn't ease then you should get onto the gp as it can require treatments such as injections or surgery.

I had this. Was laughed out of a and e by my local hospital.
Went across the border to Chester. I'd severed a nerve and tendon and was having emergency surgery 2 days later.

But I had to fight with my gp as well

The tingling would worry me - trapped nerve, or worse.

Could be dislocated?

I would go to minor injuries of they have an X ray facility, or A&E if not.

Trigger finger runs in my family oddly (both mum and sister had surgery to their thumbs) so that could be right . It’s got a tiny bit more movement after getting out of bed but still getting pins and needles . If it doesn’t sort in next couple of hours I’ll ring GP - our only A&E with x ray/cast facilities etc is an hours drive so trying to avoid that .

Definitely sounds like a trigger finger, as I have this at the moment. GP sent me to Physio, who said to rub Voltarol on the joint and wear a splint at night. This didn't work quickly, but it is starting to ease now (nearly a year later). If you're young, it will ease a lot quicker I think.

I have literally no medical expertise, so if I couldn't move a finger I'd want someone who knows what they're talking about to have a look since, y'know, the ability to move my hands is important. In your shoes I'd do them exam and then give my GP a call or minor injuries.
