Anyone had a microscopic root canal?

I had a root canal done on my left canine (vampire tooth as I call it) a couple of months ago and it's sadly failed. Bad taste, bad breath and a constant pimple above the tooth. I went to the dentist yesterday who did the original root canal and she did an xray and said there's still an infection there and showed me my xray and said as it's curved at the root it's awkward to get to and they wouldn't do another root canal as it's likely to fail again.

My dentist gave me to option of being referred to a local private place who do some sort of microscopic root canal surgery and that it's more intricate and can get to the curved part easier. She didn't know the price but I asked her to refer me as the only other option is extraction, which I do not want due to placement and visibility of the tooth. My problem is, I have a bridge next to this tooth, which my canine tooth is supporting so it wouldn't be as simple as having a bridge.

I've looked at the website this morning of the practice who do this special root canal and I was expecting it to be £300-£400 at the most. Well it's £775 Sad I can't afford it but I could put it on my credit card and pay it off over a few months and if I knew it would be a success I would do this. So my question is, has anyone had one of these done? Whether it was successful or if the tooth needed to be extracted in the end anyway, or any experiences at all would be really helpful.

Thank you!

I went to a specialist and have had many more years from a tooth touch wood . He did say it was an extremely difficult job due to the curve. I also have implants which were also successful but cost a lot more. To me it’s worth trying to save your tooth and I think the specialist would say if he thought he was wasting your time.

I have had a root canal re treatment from a specialist and it saved a tooth. The specialists do so many more of them their success rate is higher. Mine cost £900, London Shock but was money well spent.

I just paid 270 for a root canal in a front tooth. Not the main front two, the one next to it. So in between the canine and the front tooth. So not a micro one but specialist all the same. Roughly where are you located? I'm happy to pass details on if anywhere near. I'm in SE Wales.

That's a coincidence as that's where I live! The one I've been referred to is Abergavenny but I'm happy to travel.

I had a root canal last Autumn and was referred to a specialist. My tooth roots are very curved like an 's' shape instead of a 'normal' gentle curve. My usual dentist said that although he can do root canals, as a PP said, I would have more success by going to a specialist because they have had more training and do them all the time. It cost me about £750 plus the cost of the crown on top of that (Home Counties).

The specialist (endodontist) said that he hoped he would be able to do it in one appointment but depending on the complexity it could take 2. I signed off on the treatment plan beforehand so the cost was fixed. In the end I had two appointments with him and I felt reassured that he had taken the proper time to treat it for the same cost. I then had appointment 3 with my normal dentist to have it crowned.

What also reassured me was that Bupa guarantee their work for 12 months, so any issues that arise within that time will be covered in the initial fee I've paid. The specialist also booked me in for a review appointment at the end of the 12 months so they can check all is ok. They offered me interest free finance at the time although I didn't take them up on it so don't know the terms etc.

The tooth today feels great - I wouldn't know I've had any work it at all either by look or feel.

Yes, I had complex micro root canal for two teeth (possibly a geneticist problem). Each took about 3 hours and I'd recommend going to the loo beforehand!

It is like having surgery really, not like normal dentist.

The endodontist cost was £1200 per tooth, then regular dentist did a temp crown and permanent one, that was around £600-700. London. I think extra cost "because Covid".

It is expensive, but there were 3 people, working for 3 hours so I guess that's why.

Thanks everyone. I've just booked a consultation with the place I've been referred to (£80Sad) so hopefully all will go well!

Hi, I've got my consultation booked for 2nd June so it's still a long time coming! Can't wait to get it sorted, it's driving me mad.

HuaShan, can you share details of your endo? I also need a re-treatment but can't find a place that is recommended.
