Senior school HOY... Can I ask a question

My DS has had some fairly significant issues at school. He can be a very difficult and complex boy (SEN issues included as well as being a pain in the bum hormonal teen). Over the past few weeks I've had cause to speak with her a few times either in person or via email etc (all needed or on her request I'm not bombarding her with nonsense) . She is outstanding and I am blown away by her dedication to support my son. I have told her this and thanked her. Would it be weird to email the head to express this?

As @HercwasanEnemyofEducation said, please let the head know.

Definitely email the head.

I had a male HOY nearly in tears after my son delivered a card to him which basically said thank you for all the help you have given me settling into a new school where I knew no one etc. HOY rang me to tell me all he ever gets from parents are complaints and when my son knocked on the door he was like what now? Not specific to my son at all but he had just had a day of it. He was so shocked by the card but in a good way.

After that I vowed that I would always thank teachers in secondary school and when Ds1 finished school I emailed the head and praised all the teachers he had to get him through GCSEs and specifically who I thought had gone above and beyond.

They would be incredibly grateful if you did. The nature of the job means they are dealing with angry, upset people a lot of the time and it would be a lovely change.

Definitely let the head teacher know!

Many teachers will have experience of being contacted when there is a problem. It’s lovely to be contacted in a positive way and particularly, to let the head teacher know.
