Playmat for baby for floor

I have wooden floors and need something my five month old can roll about on etc, can anyone recommend one?

Someone gave me two giant foam floor jigsaws. One is a map of the world and another a farm scene. They were brilliant on the hard floor, then as a toddler she started using them again as an actual jigsaw.

Been brilliant. I think you can get actual foam play mat tiles as well but as I say this has had double use.

I’ve got a Totter and Tumble one and I wish I’d got it sooner. Now my LO is walking so it’s a nice base for me while he wanders around but it was great while he was little.

edgeware · 11/05/2021 21:31

We love our Totter & Tumble . Quality is immense. 3 year old plays on it too.

Third vote for totter and tumble. Expensive but absolutely worth the money, I would buy another one if I could afford it!

MrsPandigital · 11/05/2021 21:33

The Modern Nursery has some nice ones!

AngeloMysterioso · 11/05/2021 21:33

I just got some basic interlocking foam mats from the range. They’ve been fine. I just can’t justify spending three figures on a totter & tumble or munchkin & bear job that is exactly the same but smaller and prettier.

Persipan · 11/05/2021 21:34

I had some of those big foam tiles that join together. (Technically I originally got them to block crochet on; I just put them to use for their intended purpose rather than buy more of the same for the baby to sit on). They were great - cheap and cheerful and soft enough to pad the floor.

NameChange30 · 11/05/2021 21:37

I have one from Munchkin & Bear, a bit pricey but looks great in my living room and I've had loads of compliments on it.

Definitely a totter and tumble! Think of it as a rug replacement rather than a playmat (makes the cost more palatable).

tigerbreadandtea · 11/05/2021 21:41

I already have a lovely rug so not sure about these totter and tumble ones

Darn, I’ve been eying up Totter & Tumble but put off by the price

Mylittlesandwich · 11/05/2021 21:46

I got a pack of foam tiles from Aldi. Cheap as chips and they don't take up much space when not needed.

Fitforforty · 11/05/2021 21:53

If they are anything like my children they will be crawling very soon. I always liked the look of the IKEA zone. An alternative would be to put a duvet on the floor - multiple purpose and covers a large area.

Dinosauraddict · 11/05/2021 22:03

We have munchkin and bear - brilliant!

tigerbreadandtea · 11/05/2021 22:03

I've had throws down on the floor but she's a very sicky baby and they are a pain to wash, wipe clean would be better. I've had a look at some of the suggestions and definitely don't want to spend three figures

B&Q do sets of the foam mats in either bright colours or grey. Not the prettiest but we've found then useful for all sorts now we past the play mat stage.

CadburyCake · 11/05/2021 23:25

Multicoloured foam mats that interlock. Cheap, wipe clean, can be taken up and put away if necessary. Got ours from Tesco in a baby event but they’re available all over the place. They were only used for a matter of months, I could live with jarring interior decor for that long!

AngeloMysterioso · 11/05/2021 23:52

These are the ones I’ve got- I mean yeah they’re not particularly aesthetically pleasing but they do the job, and I won’t feel guilty about how much they cost when I don’t need them anymore!

SIL got us this for our first and we are now using it for our second. Just googled it today and it's price but great for when they Are learning to sit, and takes them from baby years to toddler good - just turn over

I also have a lovely rug, which was expensive and is not washable, so I've put it away for now (while I use the playmat instead) hence wanting something that looks decent to replace it with.
tigerbreadandtea · 12/05/2021 09:36

Given how sick my baby has been this morning I'm thinking the more expensive thick wipeable ones may be the way to go. She's been a sicky baby from the start and my washing pile is out of control!

OP posts:
AngeloMysterioso · 12/05/2021 09:49

All foam playmats are wipeable, it doesn’t need to be expensive.

coffeefi · 12/05/2021 11:08

Those foam jigsaw mat things are on sale in the range. Or you can get lovely trendy ones from modern nursery or similar

We have wooden floors too. Except for sitting room which had a large rug. So baby spends most of time there on a baby play mat

AliasGrape · 12/05/2021 11:21

We have this amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B07NYRX87L?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title]]

It’s £40 ish but when I added it to the basket I got the option to order it for cheaper with a damaged box so think it cost under £30 in the end.

I’d love a totter and tumble but don’t have that kind of budget. This folds up really easily and slides under the sofa when not in use, though to be fair we’re lazy and leave it down normally. Its also quite easily portable so I sometimes take it in the garden as we have crappy uneven paving which is next on the list to get sorted.

niki26 · 12/05/2021 12:51

We got lovely ones from the Modern Nursery - arrived extremely quickly and the five year old sits on them to play as well.
