Will the feeling of being off my face when taking tramadol pass?

Just that, really.
I'm in severe pain from my hip, co-codamol as making no difference, so I contacted OOH, and a GP prescribed tramadol.
I'm well aware of the addictive properties, but currently need it.
It's reducing the pain to a reasonable level for about 50% of the time (I'm taking 50mg every four hours), so it is helping, but I'm not up for driving or going to work.
Ideally, I'd like to double the dose at certain times of the day, but am worried I will be totally out of it. I also need to get back to work ASAP.
Does anyone have my advice? TIA.

Update:
I got a TENS machine, which has been helping a lot, and saw an osteopath this afternoon.
It's not my hip joint after all. It's the muscles in my pelvis (and one in particular, the piriformis). They are in a bad spasm.
I'm glad I went, as when I got up this morning, the pain was less, but my leg feels weird (weak and fizzy, IYSWIM). Apparently, the piriformis is putting pressure on my sciatic nerve. I've got some exercises to do to help the muscles relax. It will take a while for everything to settle down, but at least I have a plan now - and I feel vaguely human as I've stopped the tramadol!

Glad to hear you’ve found the root cause and that you’ve found a non-medication solution that helps!! Flowers

Thank you @Youngatheart00. Not to slag off the NHS, but my experience shows me that they are happy to sling medication at you (my prescription in Monday was for 100 Tramadol capsules), but not really get to the root of the problem.
I'm so glad I saw the osteopath, and that I have a plan. I never want to go through that pain again, but if I do, I know what to do about it.

A sad addition - my line manager has messaged to supposedly sympathise with my 'pain and discomfort'. I'm pretty pissed off as it feels like they are questioning my absence. FWIW, I haven't had any time off in over a year, except when my DM had a serious fall - and that was nearly a year ago. I even worked when I felt like absolute shit after a COVID vaccination.

... hadn't finished.
I've felt horrible today, which I think is my body adapting to not having tramadol, which clearly doesn't suit me. I'm feeling very washed out, and my leg still feels very odd, and shakes when I'm walking downstairs.
I'm feeling very resentful that a GP wouldn't see me or examine me, so I could have been left in terrible pain for weeks. The osteopath told me the best thing I did was to get a TENS machine.
I've been doing the exercises they gave me. Two are fine, but one that is designed to massage the muscle in spasm made me cry - and I don't do that easily. Sad
There may be no-one out there is but at least it's a bit cathartic for me to get it out.

And another update in case anyone is still interested in this.
Today is the first day I've felt reasonably normal. (I'm still off work to finish getting my leg / back sorted though.)
I saw the osteopath again today who said she wasn't at all surprised at how I felt. (But to be fair, also said some people can take them with no nasty effects.)
I won't be taking them again unless there is literally no other choice and I really need them.

I worked at Planned Parenthood in the 90’s. Our drug reps used to leave baskets of this out for us. We ( the staff) always used them menstrual cramps or headaches. It didn’t become a controlled drug until years later.
