“If I don’t believe in the tooth fairy any more do I still get the cash?”

This is the question my twelve year old asked with a glint in her eye. She raised the whole Santa/tooth fairy/elf thing a few months back and let us know she thought it was all make believe - I’m surprised it took her so long to be honest! (But very glad we don’t have to do that bloody elf again)

What have people done post tooth fairy era, do they still give a wee coin?

And, because of the vipers nest this place can be, she’s not spoiled, grabby, entitled blah blah, she won’t be bothered if she doesn’t get her £1 coin, not looking for the merits of whether we should lie to kids etc, just a lighthearted question as she’s got me wondering what the etiquette is too.

Ah I’d give her the coin, what harm?

titchy · 10/05/2021 17:57

She doesn't have any left to lose surely does she?!

AnonGlitterBomb · 10/05/2021 17:58

I’d give her the money as a little token!

@titchy I didn’t lose my final baby tooth until I was 16! At 12 I had a fair few left!

Twelve?

Justmuddlingalong · 10/05/2021 17:59

I like her style. She deserves the tooth fairy money for her honesty.

Give her the coin. Think of it as a reward for a right of passage.

Our 10 year old gets cash, as she shared a room with a 6yo who only lost her first tooth last week, so gotta keep the fairy dream alive.

IHaveBrilloHair · 10/05/2021 18:03

Mine was the same, she still got the money.

Now she's 19, we have the Easter Bunny, Birthday Fairy, Santa, and Halloween Skelton.
It's a bit of a family joke now, but, yes, she still get the gifts.
The time her last tooth fell out when she was way over believing she got £5.

Barbeasty · 10/05/2021 18:05

It’s become a running joke with DS(8) that it’s the same coin going backwards and forwards. The tooth fairy (“that’s YOU mummy”) gives him a coin, he gives it to me to looks after. Back it goes when the next tooth comes out.

Means that every time he tries to not clean his teeth I can annoy him by pondering whether the tooth fairy will leave money when the next one falls out.

Love51 · 10/05/2021 18:08

I'd go with something noncommittal about not knowing the workings of the tooth fairy and give her the money while completely denying it was me. My kids know not to mess with my make believe!

She doesn't have any left to lose surely does she?!

Her second to last one came out this afternoon.

Twelve?
yes 😏
