Cleaning "checklist " - flat's a tip

helpmeclean · 10/05/2021 06:31

Small flat, bedroom is cluttered with all kinds of shit - clothes/rubbish/plastic bottles; same front room; kitchen is a mess. Bathroom's ok though...Hmm

I am overwhelmed and have a deadline of a week on Thursday to have everything done but no idea where to start Sad

Any pointers to checklists to work through/tips much appreciated.

If anyone wants to judge, don't bother. Rapid decline in health is responsible over 18 months.

Get a bag and recycle all the bottles, put a bin in your room so you don't have future bottles lying around. Be brutal and get rid / donate all the clutter. Go through your clothes and downsize as well. The less you have the easier to clean. Dust everything, move furniture and give a good hoover. Try and re organise kitchen so everything has a place - get rid of anything you don't use - mismatched Tupperware etc. After you streamline your possessions it will be much easier to clean!

Once you have it clean just be conscious every day to keep
It tidy, out everything back where it belongs, do a bit of light tidying/wiping/dusting and if your health lets you try and keep on top of it so it doesn't become too overwhelming.

Yep, once I get it sorted this time it'll be easy to deal with.

Consider having a look at this website
www.unfuckyourhabitat.com/
It has great no nonsense style and cleaning checklists, including crisis cleaning.

Good luck with it, op. Flowers

Have you got a friend/close relative who could help you?
I've had my best friend round and we did my house in 5 days - just took one room at a time. Decluttered everything- every drawer, cupboard, shelf, box etc. Did all dusting and hoovering as we went along. Honestly I felt soo exhausted by the mess and it was suffocating. It now feels soo much better emotionally and cleaning is a bliss.
Just take one corner/one room at a time. Chuck what you don't need. Literally have no emotional thoughts about stuff - obviously if it's sentimental, then different story. Everything else can be replaced and honestly you don't/won't miss half of it. Good luck!
