Cut from dirty oven... tetanus?

Just moved into a new house and I’m cleaning out the dirty oven. The gas jet on the job stuck into my finger. Hardly looks like a scrape to see it but it pierced the skin and was quite sore. The hob parts are dirty and rusty... is a tetanus needed for this sort of thing? Thanks in advance!

I don't think so, tetanus is where horses have been in the past, so outdoors, garden etc usually

You could call 111 and ask I expect.

BertieBotts · 09/05/2021 14:22

I had one when I cut myself on a kitchen knife, even though the knife was clean and not rusty. So it probably wouldn't hurt.

I just hating wasting 111 time for a tiny wound but I will ask them.

Horses? I've never heard of that so actually googled to find out how you get it.

I didn't see horses mentioned but I did see that only 4 people had tetanus in England in 2019 Shock

You'll be a medical rarity OP so probably not too much need to worry Grin

The point of 111 is so you don't waste A&E time, I thought. So won't be a waste at all.

Ouch. Tetanus almost impossible as it comes from soil and animal manure. wash the wound in tap water and put on a plaster.
