Tell Me About Your Ebay Nutters!

Last night, around 10.30pm, I made an offer on a dress, and they accepted. I didn't see their response immediately as I was watching TV and then went to bed, I saw it this morning.

In the meantime, from 5.20am, the seller was sending me strangely gushy messages telling me that they knew how amazing I'd look in it but they needed payment before they could send the item, then that they couldn't afford time wasters as it costs them so much time and money, and then the last one saying that they know how much I will love the item, but they cannot hang on for much longer for payment due to the huge amount of other offers they have to consider and if I didn't pay ASAP they would me to Ebay. The last email came at 8.20am, and they are in the UK.

Anyway, I've just paid (it was £24 inc postage, so not huge but not minuscule) so they can, er, put it in the second class post tomorrow as they said they would.

I also once bought some dinosaurs for DS when he was little and the seller then decided that PayPal was 'ruining his life' due to the fee's, 'stealing my money' were the words used. Without asking, he then refunded my money and wanted me to bank transfer (not knowing much about potential dangers with swapping bank details with a stranger I was hesitant) and sent me 32 emails in 24 hours that became more and more hysterical (he was going to lose his home, his job, he was going to take me to court etc.)

I sent him the dinosaurs back shortly after. I hope his next buyer got off lightly...

Please tell me yours!

I had a three wheeler jogging type buggy for sale. I had agreed the sale and courier service and the bidder was happy.
The listing detailed everything as I just copies and pasted it from the website I had bought it from.
Buyer gets in contact to say she wants a refund as doesn't feel safe with a buggy where the wheels come off - they purposely come off to allow you to fold the buggy away.
Anyway It was in the description very clearly and EBay sided with her and I had to pay the courier costs to get it back.

Upon receiving it she had obviously used it and had the cheek to send me an email asking for money for packaging costs when she used the box of sent it in!!

I've had a few low level pains in the arse wanting things couriered when they are big bulky things advertised as collection only.

I've mostly given up now. eBay and PayPal fees have become so expensive now it's not worth it. I use Gumtree occasionally though that's full of oddballs too and give to the charity shop and local dogs shelter etc.

Well the batshit one today was almost me.

My younger son has lost his waterproof coat so I need to buy a new one. Looked on ebay and saw a used one that looked OK. Clicked on the listing to discover that it was my listing for one my older son had outgrown.

I nearly bought my own item. Ffs. Blush

I have been using eBay for over 20 years and luckily have largely been ok, not been scammed or anything. The worst problem I had was when I listed a bag I bought in the US. Mulberry did a range of bags for Target stores in the states (this was about ten years ago, I think), nice looking bags with Mulberry logos etc but not leather. They were sold out and highly sought after. I listed it as a ‘Mulberry for Target’ bag, lots of photos, linked to the webpage where the collaboration was listed, mentioned several times it was the range Mulberry had designed for Target... you can see where this is going, can’t you? Woman bought it, and then was furious saying I’d sold her a fake Mulberry. I explained it was a collaboration. She just said, yes but it’s fake isn’t it? Did not seem to understand the concept. I refunded her in the end and she still left negative feedback calling me a scammer. Luckily I got in touch with eBay and they kindly removed it for me.

I sold some very old clay flower pots. I clearly said that they had been used since the 1950s possibly longer and were dirty, weathered etc. Buyer complained that they had obviously been used and they could see that they had had water on them at some point.🤔

I have rarely sold anything on there and not for years due to the problems. But the ones that stick in my mind are:

Buyer bought a top on BIN. Didn't pay. Just as it got to the point I could open an unpaid item dispute (about 8 days wait back then) she finally made contact asking me to re-list the item as she had PayPal problems. I said no, as it would cost me to re-list and she had had plenty of time to contact me. No reply so I opened the unpaid item case. Cue abuse from her calling me all the names under the sun and telling me how unreasonable I was. She also requested my details from eBay and tried to threaten me as she now had my home address and phone number. She left me nasty feedback and ruined my score, then waited until the last few minutes of the 8 day unpaid item case before paying.
Needless to say I promptly refunded her and told her I would not deal with her. She had horrendous feedback and was scamming and being abusive to everybody.

Another was a buggy I sold. Someone bid at the last second and won it. I contacted them straight away but they never replied. They never paid or replied to messages, even though a person must have placed the bid! Then when I relisted it the person who won it refused to come and collect it as the 20 minute drive to our house was too far for her child to be in the car apparently Confused We ended up meeting her halfway just to get shot of it.

As a buyer I once just missed the end of an auction for a toy my DS really wanted. I messaged to ask if they would re-list it so I could buy it. They told me to make them an offer. I was a bit confused but said would they accept the price they had it listed at (which wasn't particularly low or unreasonable) and they said no they would rather give it away Hmm
