Looking for ideas for child friendly places in Scotland to go with my kids for a little break over summer.

I'm a lone parent with 3 DC one with disabilities and LD. it would need to be somewhere with things to to keep them occupied. All suggestions greatly welcomed

How about basing yourself near Glasgow? The city has large parks, free botanical gardens and kid-friendly museums (inc. Kelvingrove, transport museum), pools and soft plays. Edinburgh is in easy reach, as is Loch Lomond and the Campsies.

I love the North West Highlands, beautiful scenery, but less to do indoors and you're more dependent on good weather! Or you could base yourself near Inverness - city amenities including good pool, but with Highland scenery and Loch Ness on your doorstep?

Dumfries and Galloway is really nice.
Lots of lovely beaches (Sandyhills is my favourite), nice towns - Dalbeattie, Kirkudbright, Dumfries.... & lots of options for children- Mabie Farm, Cocoabean chocolate factory, Creetown Gem Museum (I was reluctant, but it's great!), Dinosaur park at Hetland garden centre, Dalscone fun farm in Dumfries , Galloway Aviation museum in Dumfries, lots of woodland walks and activities.
And the best thing, no midges!

I would second Dumfries area. We’re off there again next week.
Edinburgh is also lovely for a few days stay.

You probably want to think about travel practicalities. It can take a long way to get anywhere, especially when you go further north than the central belt. Are you driving?

If you've not been there before, and are only going for a short break, either Glasgow or Edinburgh will have plenty to occupy you all for a few days. If you're coming from England, going any further north is likely to require hours in the car, which might not be practical.

Driving up either side goes through lovely scenery that you can stop off at for a picnic and a break from driving so just keep an eye out for signs.

Another one for Dumfries and Galloway. It's not as busy as the most popular tourist spots but it is equally as beautiful as the rest of Scotland but sadly overlooked. Lochs, Castles, beaches, and very friendly people.
