Did anyone’s child just reach an age and they miraculously slept through? Or am I kidding myself?

I’ve done a bit of sleep training with my 17 month old over the last couple of weeks. We had a brilliant week but last couple of nights it’s been 3 wake ups 🤦🏼‍♀️.
He gets himself off to sleep at night in his cot so feel that’s a big thing to tackle as I used to shush/Pat until he fell asleep.
Do I just “admit defeat” and wait things out or try something else 🙄

Mine were both 20-22 months and it did feel miraculous at the time! My second used to wake around 4 times a night, then suddenly nothing! Grin don't worry it will happen! Flowers

Yes! DS1 was about 2.5, DS2 was about 1.5 and DS3 about 3!

The whole range is completely normal and it will happen Flowers

Although normal it is possible to make modifications to improve sleep. That's great he goes to sleep by himself. What does he need to get back to sleep during the night?
It is possible to change habits.
My 12 month old son's habit was waking up for a quick milk feed but once we stopped this he stopped waking up during the night. Still working on the early rises though!

Don't feel a failure. It really is nothing you have done.
I have 3 dc, all of them treated the same at bedtime.

#1 slept through every night from 8 weeks, 12 hours a night and 3 hours afternoon.
#2 slept no more than 2 hours at a stretch until she was about 18 months, when I sobbed on the doctor. He gave her medised which is the most fantastic potion, but unfortunately not licenced for children any more. I gave her 1.25ml for 2 nights, and both of them she slept 12 hours. After that she slept 9-10 hours through pretty consistently. If she had 2 nights running of waking, then I'd give her another dose the next night and then she'd be back to sleeping through.
Ds first slept through at 7 weeks. Around 10 hours. Two days later he had a bad reaction to his first injections and didn't sleep through again until nearly 10 weeks. At 10 weeks he started ear infections. So he had a cycle:
Day 1: Clear-sleep through
Day 2: Ear starting to hurt, wake 1-2 times
Day 3: ear really hurting/burst, antibiotics given, not sure he did more than doze overnight.
Day 4: still hurting repeat of previous night
Day 5: Getting better wake 1-2 times
Day 6-8: antibiotics gave him stomach ache, waking 3-4 times
Day 9-10: Sleep through.
Repeat... until he had grommets in at 20 months where he slept mostly through after that.

The point is that it was nothing I did. It was entirely down to the child.
