Miraculous Ladybug for a 3 year old?

DD is 3 years 7 months and has somehow found Miraculous Ladybug on YouTube and our Netflix channel! I’ve watched a tiny bit of it with her and it seems a bit too old for her age. Some of the girls are quite catty and the wording seems grown up for my DD. However, she loves it! Am I being too cautious? Is it age appropriate for someone her age?

I don't know the answer but my 12 and 15 year old watch it!

HPmagic · 08/05/2021 08:34

I would say no, there is far more age appropriate stuff available

AConvivialHost · 08/05/2021 08:54

My 4 year old loves it, as does my 15 year old and her friends - something they will happily watch together is a win-win in my book. It's not particularly age appropriate - but a million times better than Diana and Roma (Am I beautiful?), or some of the other international kids accounts which are appearance/weight focussed.

BTW they do Miraculous Ladybug costumes on Amazon, and they start at age 3-4, so they must realise it also appeals to a younger audience.

DS1 (5) went through a phase of watching it last year but then I steered him towards other things because the themes seemed a bit old for him - lots of teenagers being unkind to eachother or being snooty (the mayors daughter)

TeenMinusTests · 08/05/2021 10:03

I think as part of a range of programmes it's OK.
The catty-teen behaviour will mainly go over her, but the cute miraculouses (sp?) transformations and adventure are relatively tame imo. There's a lot worse out there.

That said, at that age mine only watched CBeebies.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/05/2021 10:08

I stopped DS watching it last year when he was 5. I felt it was creepy in some way that I can't fully articulate - there are lots of teenage type themes but also a constant focus on their bodies in a way that did not seem appropriate.

OhShitShit · 08/05/2021 10:11

My 4.5 year old watches it occassionally. I have similar concerns about it - nothing specifically outright inappropriate, but it feels quite “mature”- so although he’s allowed to watch it, it’s not a “staple” in the way that Kung Fu Panda or Messy goes to Okido are.

Worriesome · 08/05/2021 10:22

Maybe she’s just liking the images and characters? My daughter watched it and I think she was between 4-5, I can’t really remember but I enjoyed it too! If what they are saying is harmless let her enjoy it but if it’s anything that sparks a concern then maybe switch to something more age appropriate x

Omg it drives me crazy the way the girls simper after boys on there. It’s banned in my house. Such bad modelling

winniesanderson · 08/05/2021 12:15

My 11 year old watches it but I won't let my nearly 3 year old watch it. It's all a bit too shouty and fast paced. And although I'm sure a lot of it goes over the little ones head that makes me think she's just glued to the graphics and not getting anything out of it. The eldest is now obsessed with anime. That's a whole new level of figuring out what's suitable.

Sceptre86 · 08/05/2021 17:55

My 5 year old loves it. She doesn't understand much apart from the fact she is a girl that is a superhero. I watch it with her and have tried to steer her towards other things as I find it a bit old for her. Has anyone else found a girl superhero cartoon for that age group?

tinatsarina · 08/05/2021 18:09

It's hard to find super hero girls shows that aren't teenagers in costumes apart from Powerpuff girls that might be ok

TuesdayRuby · 08/05/2021 20:12

Thanks all. Just watched a bit more once the kids have gone to bed (rock and roll Saturday for me!).
She is also really into Superheroes and superpowers etc. Whilst I think it’s probably what I would have watched as a kid (I was into that genre too), I think 3 is a bit too young. I don’t really want her watching stuff with boyfriend/relationship issues in just yet!
I’ll push back with some more Paw Patrol episodes Grin

I don’t let my 5yr old watch it. Caught her one day and it felt really teen, the girls preening for the boys and talking about kissing. It’s had the result of making it all forbidden though and she’s told me with glee that she’s watched it over at friends houses! It’s probably not the worst but like pps said it just felt a bit seedy for her age.
