Weighted blankets

Can anyone tell me if they've used a weighted blanket with their DC to help them sleep.
I'm really interested to hear any stories positive or negative. I have a 6 year old DD with ASD who co sleeps. Although we have a king sized bed she has recently started to have a need to hold onto us and almost burrow into us as she sleeps. This means her side is completely clear while the one of us sleeping with her is left with very little space with a child on us all night. This makes far from a comfortable nights sleep!
I was wondering if a weighted blanket would help ease her need to do this from a sensory perspective.
Any experiences would be very welcome Smile

@BlackeyedSusan

I don't think you are supposed to sleep with them. There is an alternative product that stretches across a bed but no good for co sleeping.
What are you talking about? Weighted blankets are for sleeping under. The only rule is the user needs to be able to comfortably and easily get out from under it.

I bought one for DC and just recently a good friend. She text me to say she has had excellent sleep since using it.
I got my from online home shop too

I got a weighted blanket for myself, and my son (8) stole it from my bed because he loved how it felt. He sleeps better than her ever has; no more climbing into my bed in the middle of the night. The one I got was a double size. I cant remember the weight; I think 9kg, but it's fine on his single bed and he's able to easily move out from under it etc. I'm in the process of getting him a single size one.

I got ds (13yo) one for Christmas he absolutely loves it. He says it's like being hugged all night.

Has anyone had any success using one for restless leg syndrome? And how warm are they? I think DS could use one but he gets too hot even with a summer duvet.

DailyMaui · 07/05/2021 21:27

I'm menopausal and I was worried I'd feel too hot but as long as my feet are out I'm ok (my feet were always out with a duvet anyway).

My weighted blanket has been a game changer - at the start of the pandemic I was sleeping really badly. It makes a huge difference. And yes you really want to sleep under it!

I find mine less hot and sweaty than my normal duvet. I don't know if it's because there is less air to circulate?

I put mine in a duvet cover and just have that.

DD has hers on top of her normal duvet.

@Thelnebriati

That's why I got mine, for restless leg, and it made a massive difference. Gone back to now having it as my son started using it and I've gone back to jot having great sleep! Getting another as they really do help.

They arent really warm exactly. They're made from thin covering filled with tiny glass beads for the weight. I've got a thinish fleece cover for mine so it's nice and soft, and it's the warmth of having a fleece throw or something on you rather than a duvet.

Thats really helpful, thank you.
